Seeking information on factory shoulder belts

I am completely clueless about shoulder belts. Only seen a couple set ups. Hoping for some good pics/info to get me started.

Starting questions:

From the factory was this set up used with a lap belt and then a separate shoulder belt needing two female buckles per passenger? Or was it somehow all one belt?

Did they make these shoulder belts for the 67 lift latch style belts?

I really know nothing.....so feel free to educate me please oh wise ones

The following are the only pictures I've saved on the subject. They show a 1968 in a "junk" yard with was said to have original shoulder belts ( they were even listed on the glovebox SPID.) Next, is a 1970 with original lap and shoulder belts ( two female buckles ) There is also a drawing from the assembly manual and a white truck with black interior with the aftermarket type, one piece belts. NOW you know !!!

I am kinda thinking now about trying to make a set up from some belts I have.

Now does anyone know if this configuration could have came in a '67 with the lift latch style buckles?

Something else to consider is the fact that the separate should belt is a "pain in the neck" to wear !!! We had them in our new 71 GM car and I remember that I couldn't get anyone to use them because of the inconvenience of having to get them down and adjust them. I'm going to get a set of the new after market one piece shoulder belts for my restoration - it won't look "factory" but I hope people will at least wear them !!!

Thanks for the link. You're all over this stuff. I agree I would MUCH rather have the one piece three point harness, but I do want the 67-72 style buckles. Preferably the '67 lift latch style. I just don't like the look of the newer buckles

you can make up a set of factory style shoulder bellts using a couple oem center seatbelts. the male ends are identical in length. just flatten the anchoring bracket in a vice. the only thing not reproduced exactly are the male retainers. there are additional female retainers used on the front of factory consoles

Cool. I have actually seen where you have talked about doing this before, which got me thinking, but I just didn't know enough about them until now. I just don't know if I would ever actually wear the shoulder belt with the buckle across my chest :/

As I said earlier, our 71 Fleetwood Station wagon had them and that buckle in the middle was ALWAYS in the way. You couldn't stretch over to the glove box either like you can in the new ones. AND, if you didn't put it back up when you got out ( it had to be folded and put under a clip ) - it would fall out onto the street ( or at least get slammed onto the sill plate ) - that car had many dents there !!!

I'm getting the feeling that this would be a timely undertaking that would be purely cosmetic and the belts would be stored 90% of the time :/

I'm having A LOT of "cosmetic" things done to my 70 and to me, they're worth it. I'm having it made the way I would have wanted it if I could have ordered it back in September of 1969 ( since I was 17 and in High School at the time, that would have been pretty hard to do !!! ) So, go ahead and get some or make some with the "lift latch" - a year from now, you'll have the look YOU want and be glad of your choice.

I'm going to see what I have laying around. One more question though, if I put shoulder belts in my truck.....could I get a ticket for wearing the lap belt and not the shoulder belt?

Pretty sure the shoulder belts were available in 67. Another thing to keep in mind is if you add the shoulder belts, you will be required to wear them i believe. If johnny law sees it hanging there and not on you, it will probably be a ticket.

Here's a SPID from a 67 with shoulder belts - it looks like it's been stuck on there for 44 years to me.
