Cab gas tank hole
So I have a painted cab and a fuel cell in the bed but I don't have a stock tank. I am eventually, going to repaint the cab and at that time I will weld up a patch in the cab, however, for the time being so I can cruise this summer, any ideas for the existing hole?

Re: Cab gas tank hole
I was at a car show this past weekend, and a guy there had a blazer tank under the bed of his 70. He cut the nozzle off the old tank behind the seat and secured it in the hole with a new rubber gasket/grommet. It looked like he still ran the factory tank until you looked in the cab behind the bucket seats and there was no tank.

Re: Cab gas tank hole
fake arm/leg, doll head, adult toy ect. Or go down to a sign shop and have them match the paint w a piece of vynle, slightly more official than a piece of duct tape.

Re: Cab gas tank hole
I did this on my '65 Shop Truck, it fits the late 60's - 70's vibe: it is a CB antenna mount. Some people like it some don't. As an old timer I know there was a time when most trucks had CB radios. As my pal Cartman says "Whateva, I Do What I Want".
I used an Astatic 605 Ball style mount. The stock filler neck grommet was used as an isolation bushing by sanding off the upper portion and installing it upside down. A backing plate was made out of a header collector flange I had and it was drilled and tapped to accept the (3) 10-32 stainless screws. Last edited by lakeroadster; 04-20-2011 at 02:14 PM. |
