Re: hooker competition headers, your thoughts?

I have a set of Hookers on my truck and love them. Never had any problems that others complain about with cheaper headers. Plugs are easy to get at, no leaks, did however burn some wires, but that was the PO's fault (wires resting on the header will burn).

Re: hooker competition headers, your thoughts?

I had them on my old small block powered 69 short/fleet GMC... I miss the headers almost as much as I miss the truck. Never warped, never leaked up top, only leaked on the collectors becouse the dope smokin old man who had it before me over torqued them... some dead soft aluminum gaskets fixed that up. They exited parallel to the ground instead of aimed down at an angle, were 1/2 tucked up 1/2 down from the bottom of the frame... they were just bad ass.

Re: hooker competition headers, your thoughts?

I have them on my truck and so far no leaks. (I can't say that for the piece of crap Cyclone headers I had on there before.) Thicker flanges make a big difference. Mine were also advertised as working with a manual transmission and angled plugs and they fit without problems. Best of all I've turned up to 6900 RPMs through them, so flow is no issue.

Re: hooker competition headers, your thoughts?

Man....can't believe no one has mentioned that they are TUNED headers. That means that each pipe is equal length all the way down to the collector. Makes for a more efficient header and does help the sound a little but gives you great performance.

I bet you're looking at a set of coated Super Competition headers. He's looking at the entry level Competition uncoated headers.

I'm guessing yes, because the frames not cut out. '68 and up he may not have had to notch the frame. Is this what you were thinking?

Re: hooker competition headers, your thoughts?

I'm thinking of putting the same on my 1970 C-20. Summit has them priced decent and with my discount I should hopefully knock a little off that.

Putting in a complete new exhaust system with 2 1/2" pipe. followed up with a set of magnaflows, exiting out before the rear wheels.
still not set on the magnaflows, maybe flowmasters based on pricing.

I have Super Comps on my 71 and I love em. Fit was nice and they actually come on and off without a huge hassle.
