'63 windshield trim install
What a struggle.
I just finished putting stainless trim into my new weatherstripping on the windshield of the '63, with the windshield out of the truck. My fingers are going to be sore for a week, and I still need to put the windshield back in the truck. Greg.

Re: '63 windshield trim install
well i installed mine in the 62 with stainless a couple of months ago and it was'nt to bad.it took two of us 45 minutes to clean the glass, install new rubber from brothers and the stainless and back into the truck.i used blue masking tape to keep the rubber on the glass then installed all the trim except for the end caps, then soaped it well installed the rope and the rest was history.
good luck with the install. |

I didn't have a helper so I guess that is wh it was so difficult, but I did have masking tape - lots of it! I will be using the rope trick to get it in. Hopefully today it will warm up and make it easier to install on the truck. Greg.

Haven't replaced the windshield in my '62 yet. Not bad shape, just one crack and not looking forward to the task.

Re: '63 windshield trim install
Okay, I just got in from the garage and I just finished getting the windshield into the truck.
I started at 11:30am this morning, and except for 20 minutes to grab a sandwich, I have been at it all day - just over 5 hours. This is the third time I have had my windshield out of the '63 and it was by far the most difficult this time. I don't care who you are or where you live, DO NOT ASK ME TO HELP YOU WITH YOURS! ;o) Greg. Oh, BTW, it looks great with the '61 trim around the windshield.

Re: '63 windshield trim install
Cutty heres a little trick for you on that cracked rubber, get yourself a tube of autoglass urethane or go to a glass shop and have them shoot a bead on the crack , then put some spit on your finger and smooth it out pushing some down in the crack . if you take your time it will hide and in some case's seal from water. Anyway a old trick I used for years. Good luck.

Re: '63 windshield trim install
Thanks to Bugeyev8 for taking care of this trim for all those years until it could make it's home on my '63.
Greg.

Very Nice!! Job well done!!
Did you install the top of the windshield first? My glass guy told me to start at the top. Mines a 65.

Re: '63 windshield trim install
Looks great Greg,
I helped my glass guy install my w-shield about 2 weeks ago. We put the rubber on the windshield first. Then added the molding (with tape to hold it in place), THEN installed the assy (windshield, gasket, molding). Took about a 1/2 hour Sounds like you installed the rubber and the molding on the cab first, then the windshield?

Looks like you had the added benefit of being able to get close to the glass (no hood or fenders), you had an extra pair of hands, and it wasn't a wrap around windshield. Greg.

Re: '63 windshield trim install
Good to hear then!
Actually, "I" was the extra set of hands. He did most of the work. He said he does not like doing glass like these though.

Is that a 66 bed. I have always thought that 66 was the only one with backup lights.

Re: '63 windshield trim install
Where did you get your gasket? I got one from Classic Parts and one from Steele Rubber and my installer can't get either in. He's had it for 4 days now.

Re: '63 windshield trim install
Greg, do you remember where you bought your gasket? If the trim I just bought turns out to be as nice as promised, it will be going on my truck this summer during the hot weather. Thanks, Mark.

Re: '63 windshield trim install
Where did you find the chrome door pieces? I found the windshield piece for $150 along with the piece that goes under the rear window.

Re: '63 windshield trim install
The door pieces are 60-63 GMC window trim. Not reproduced. You'll have to find a donar truck. I found a set a couple of months ago...they're out there, just have to do some digging. They were made for the 64-66 cabs also.
