PS conversion saga-journey into insanity part 2-help pls

Well, I got the brackets working, the new pump fits perfectly in them and the whole unit into the truck BUT the pulley sticks out to far to align with any of my grooves on my harmonic balancer. Please see the pics below. I have two questions:

1. Does my truck have a short or long water pump and does it matter?
2. Do power steering pumps come with different size pulley shafts because when I put the pump in the brackets I am only 1 grooves length away but it sticks out too far to hook to anything? and I have 3 grooves down below but they are obscured in the pic by a belt laying across them,

I am losing my mind on this one. I need some last advice from this generous group.

I used the brackets from the van and just chopped of the piece that would have attached to the exhaust because my alternator already does so, have a look.

What are my options here?

It is on backwards.

You MAY need a special tool to PRESS the pulley on...do NOT hammer the pulley on.

Re: PS conversion saga-journey into insanity part 2-help pls

Well, got it in the truck and it is off center a little. Enough for the pulley to slightly rub the second bracket which by the way I cannot figure out the purpose it serves. (As everybody can tell by now I am learning and humbled) But I am thinking about just using the rear bracket with the two bolts going to the block and the two bolt to the ps pump one of which is adjustable. The bracket that goes on top is buying me no extra support from what I can tell. Anybody ever just use a flat bracket with the four holes one of which is elongated for adjusting?

I use both. The cast front bracket keeps the pump square under belt tension & load so the belt doesn't pop off.

So I see more grinding in my future. Also, the shaft on my new pump moves in and out if you push and ppull just a little (1/16 to 1/8 of an inch) is this normal?

Moroso I think makes a shim kit if you need to shim so your pulleys line up.

You have a short pump and I think the ps pulley is for a long pump with ac.

Re: PS conversion saga-journey into insanity part 2-help pls

I see, I was just going to shim with washers since it not too far off. However, I have 3 grooves on the pulley on my harmonic balancer down below, can I just use one of those?

Go to junkyard. Get entire serpentine belt setup from a 96 silverado. Bolt on. And be done with it. No more bull**** adjustments. And no squeaky belts!

Re: PS conversion saga-journey into insanity part 2-help pls

I want to have separate belts for my alternator, ps and eventually ac, that way when one goes I don't lose everything until I get a new belt. But thanks for tha advice. I did consider that option earlier.

On the crank pulley ... closest to the engine is the alt. middle is ac outside ps. with a short pump.
Oh, if you have a short pump crank pulley.

Re: PS conversion saga-journey into insanity part 2-help pls

That is great information thank you! I got the pump in, have a look, I think if I put the right pulley on it will work. It would work now but the alt belt misses the inside groove of the pulley on the oump by 1/4 inch. Could I just get a pulley with the outside groove and not 2 grooves. Do I in fact have the wrong pulley? Check out the pics: Plus the cracnk pulley slants slightly upwards towards the hood with the engine and my pump does not. I don't know if it is enough of a difference to matter though?
