Two tone paint... red/silver. need help and opinions?? 84 swb

I have an 84 swb. I want to make the truck pretty much original everything. 305, auto, etc. Don't wanna change it. Thats what my 82 swb is for. Somewhere along the line it was painted black. I know it was originally apple red. And from removing the stick on trim, I see the bottom was silver. Would the roof have been silver too??? I always liked the red but dunno about two tone. Like I said I kinda wanna leave it original. Would you leave it red or would you two tone it original? I guess I could always paint it the apple red then go two tone later if I decide I want it "correct". Here is the rpo from the fender well if it helps. I just need to know if the top would have been red or silver and what color would you paint a bone stock 84 swb with apple red as the main color.

If you found trace of Silver on teh bottom it could mean that the top was silver also. Most likely it was. Does it have a factory cab back moulding? If so it was probably silver on top .

dang, I wonder how I go about finding out. I tryed scratching paint off of it but it looks like just primer under the black so maybe the roof was stripped. This one has the silverado package. it was for sure silver below the chrome line and red on top. Just not sure about the roof.

Re: Two tone paint... red/silver. need help and opinions?? 84 swb

There is a red / silver (grey?) '84 at a local car lot. Guess it was the "deluxe" 2-tone because it has the silver cove on the sides, with the orange / black tape stripes dividing the colors. The paint is really hashed but there's enough left to see what it looked like originally.

I can take a pic and post it if need be.

BTW if you're really brave, primers and non-catalyzed paints can be stripped with oven cleaner and it (usually) doesn't harm the factory baked-on paint underneath. Proceed with caution, only do this if you're 100% SURE you want to respray the truck.

I messed with it a little today, pretty sure I see silver under black paint on roof. Looks like it was just like the deluxe two tone for the 87 you posted. THANKS EVERYBODY...

ZY4 is the RPO code for the two tone on your truck (per the SPID); I just can't remember which style that was, unfortunately. Apparently it corresponds to the third pic on the chart that was posted.

(They are probably RPOs ZY2, ZY3, ZY4 and ZY5, tracking top to bottom).
