In the spirit of giving.. or paying it forward,
In the year and a half I have owned my truck I have acquired many new friends, a little knowledge, a lot of parts, timely help, and a million laughs and good times. So I am going to do a little pay it forward, I have a 69 Chevy radiator support in decent condition and a 1969 GMC grille in decent condition. What I want to do is offer these free to whoever can use them. A couple of caveats: Please do not take these if you are not going to use them, and I am traveling from Maine to West Virginia the end of January and can bring them with me to drop off along my route. I do not have the time to ship or package these parts, so please don't ask. So if anyone can use these please post on here it will be first come first served. I can take more pictures too.

Re: In the spirit of giving.. or paying it forward,
Cool.
Especially cool if a member takes them for a build and not for any other reason. Very classy.

Re: In the spirit of giving.. or paying it forward,
Well, I'm all about this kind of thing.
When I was building Harleys back in the 80's and 90's, I made life-long friends by exchanging parts...not "keeping score", and not being stupid about it. For example, if I had an extra trans main shaft that wasn't bent, and one of the guys was struggling thru a tranny rebuild, he knew I'd "pony up" to make his pain ($$$$) a little easier. If the same guy lusted after my polished generator engine cases, he'd' have to pay the price.....Then again, there's a "Bro price", and a "market price". And, if I'd previously sent a pile of "friendship-parts" to someone who I knew I had a pile of good pistons after I'd blown one, and he wanted to finance his trip to France on my back by hording them or asking $200 for a rod bearing (or something)? Well, then you live and learn. That's the way life is. That's the way people are sometimes. I'm glad we have Forum Member Vendors. I really think they need to have their business' supported. And, in a way, sending off a free part to a Brother Forum Member may cut into that business a tad. But I bet our Member Vendors would be some of the first guys to say, "Glad you got that rare-as-hen's-teeth part". Personally, I'm in the middle of a build. I had two cabs, and have ended up with some strange leftovers. Some of the stuff I knew I wasn't going to use I dragged down to grace the crusty "used" shelves of my pals at Early Classic Enterprises....They send the type of used stuff that I've taken them to customers for favors. They've done that for me on some strange stuff. A chunk of grill, a few crusty bolts I was missing...that kind of stuff. So, now I'm getting down to the point that there's some clear redundancy. And, I'd be really, really happy to send a part or two off to a Forum Member when he/she needs it. Sometimes I need advice. Sometimes I need stuff. No weakness in that. It feels good to return the favor when I can. So, how to arrange it? Is there a place on the Forum where people could ask for stuff that might be "extra" that would not interfere with Supporting Vendors livelihood? Most of the stuff I'd envision would be rehabbed, "save from the scrap-pile" parts anyway. But could be gold to the guy who needs it.

Re: In the spirit of giving.. or paying it forward,
The reason I am doing this is because I was given parts from a fellow member in VT, I am just continuing the paying it forward that he gave me.

Re: In the spirit of giving.. or paying it forward,
I'm very new to the forum, but can already tell that this place (virtual place) is full of quality folks who are willing to share knowledge and experience. Couple that with folks who are willing to pay-it-forward in actual parts, you've got a truly special place to spend time and exchange ideas!
The other forums should take a lesson in what it means to be an enthusiast by browsing here...nice job everyone, I look forward to becoming an active member soon!

Re: In the spirit of giving.. or paying it forward,
Wow, Mikey, what an awesome gesture. I wish I was in a position to take advantage of such generosity...my front support is functional, but could certainly stand to be replaced. Unfortunately I'm nowhere near the route you're taking. Best of luck finding a good home for your parts, and thanks for such a great reminder of the type of upstanding character this forum fosters.

Re: In the spirit of giving.. or paying it forward,
Payin' it forward.....feels good. As long as the payer is not expecting anything in return, then it is all about the spirit of giving. Honestly, it's not just truck parts but what many people do, everyday. It's the people who prey on the nice folks only to turn around and profit from that gift, that I pity. Sure, there's people who are like that (greedy) and more power to them. Sadly, there will come a time when they will be needing something way more intangible and it just won't be there for them....free or otherwise.
You're a trooper for making the offer. God bless you.

Re: In the spirit of giving.. or paying it forward,
I think most of the parts available are because the owners already bought new parts from a vendor. Plus we have a parts for sale forum already. So would it be interfering with their livelihood? I only offered as I am traveling May 1st from Maine to West Virginia and back the end of May, and thought I could relay parts if it worked out for anyone plus I wanted to return the same pay-it-forward I received from a fellow forum member. I have two more trips this year and then I am done. If I can help great ! If not then great !
