http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...TQ:MOTORS:1123
I may be able to get him down to %3700, I'd like to go lower. Does anything stand out as being a problem. Keep in mind, In my neck of the woods, you just don't see these a all. Thanks! |

Re: Need an opinion on this 86, please.
check the floor pans and bring a small magnet with you .. easily one pf those 99cent little grabbers at a autoparts check out counter..
check the rockers, cab corners and ask if he's willing to let you see the foor boards.. those three things can easily bring a grand off the price.

Yea its defiantly a cool truck I would say its around the 3k Dollar price range just my opinion. I would also want to check the floor boards and rocker panels as well to see what they look like.

Re: Need an opinion on this 86, please.
well, at first I didn't like it much, too plain looking, nothing special at all, except I do like the look of the stock wheels and caps, other than a little rocker rust it looks like a pretty clean truck, just plain. Homely colors on it, looks like an old fleet truck for some utility or something. I could get something a lot prettier that someone else has spent money on upgrades, for that kind of money.
BUT Then I read about the driveline, and I love it. It sounds to me like it was done right, you need the stand alone computer to run the 700, and a stock 700 is weak so it's nice it mentioned the servo upgrades to stand up to that motor. I'll bet you that's a beautiful truck to drive, you couldn't build one for that money. I'd buy it and just put a sharp-looking Silverado two tone paint job on it, and I'd be a happy man. Anything it's going to need is likely going to be a cheap and easy fix.

Re: Need an opinion on this 86, please.
It looks like a nice truck, but it does have a plow mount on it and is called a "c10/c20" by the owner. It may be worth while to ask if he is mistaken and its actually a K10/k20 or if someone rebodied a 4x4 with a 2 wheel body.

Re: Need an opinion on this 86, please.
Actually he said C20, not C10 or K10. I've found over the years that many people call trucks C10 or C20 when they have 4wd, they just don't understand the designation. The whole truck line-up is called CK, and I've had people tell me they own a CK10.
At this age and with the driveline being rebuilt, I'm not sure I'd care if the body was swapped too. These trucks are totally interchangeable, I would be concerned about a sheetmetal swap anymore than I would be about the motor swap, or new brakes or tires for that matter. I guess everything on a 73-87 can be considered a wear item. I've changed cabs before because they were rotted out, and I've swapped beds for the same reason. One of the reasons I love these trucks, there isn't much a backyard mechanic can't do himself. And I don't think it would detract from the value of the truck, like it would on a 50s or 60s antique show truck.

Re: Need an opinion on this 86, please.
Looking closer, I spotted a few more things. I have no idea what kind of plow frame that is, but it looks like something homemade. I'd ditch it, if it's not a Fisher or a Blizzard it's a POS anyway, IMO. Maybe he really did just use it on his own driveway, but EVERYBODY says that when they sell a plow or a plowtruck. It's the plowtruck version of the old "only driven to church on Sunday by a little old lady". I also don't like the cleats bolted through the sheetmetal all over the bed and tailgate. I hate that! Probably because I've spent so much time filling those stupid holes on otherwise perfect beds.
Love the rear bumper, I put those on all my trucks because they look so sharp, plus it makes the truck look more tough to me, because if you are going to tow anything for real you certainly aren't going to tow it off a bumper. Power locks and crank windows. That's odd. Interior looks decent though, I like it. Would have been nice if they had detailed the engine compartment when they had the motor out. It's certainly an ideal candidate for an easy body resto and paint. Put another $2000in it and it will last another 20 years. And when you park next to a brand new pickup at the gas station, you know your truck will garner more attention than the new one. Not only is it prettier, better built and more reliable, you own it for about a years payments on a new one, and get the same or better mileage.

Re: Need an opinion on this 86, please.
I didn't mean that he shouldn't ask, I would ask for clarification, at least to let the guy know it's not a C-series truck. I just meant that I don't think it's likely or a big deal. I'm betting because in the drop-down fields he either stopped scrolling down too soon and checked off c20, or it didnt list k20 at all. I've seen that many times.
idk, truck looks 25 years old to me. A body swap in the last decade would probably look a lot newer. My 82 has 87 doors on it, 87 grill, 85 bed, 98 motor, and I still love her just the same.

Re: Need an opinion on this 86, please.
Id say go with $3500, money talks! the rockers dont even look all that bad, just looks like a bit of surface rust due to the white paint. Newer vehicles get that after one winter. It looks solid as Hell, but im a sucker for these trucks.

Not sure where he's from in Minn. He also has another old Chevy for sale. But, I think I like the white on better. I also found a blue one that I really like as well.
Thanks for all of the great feedback. You guys are great! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevr...item1e63b04ca9 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/87-CH...item4159c82ff7 |

Re: Need an opinion on this 86, please.
I would take a hard look at a vehicle that has been modified that extensively. Usually you have a lot of bugs to work out and that may be why he is selling.
It's one thing to put a 454 where a 305 used to sit. It's a whole different story when you are putting a LT1 in a mid 80's truck.

Yeah, Sounds like I should pass on this one. It's really hard trying to find a decent truck. There's just no inventory where I live!

I wouldn't own a lt1 or lt4 if the water pump leaks it kills the optispark and won't run.
