control arm bushings
I have new upper and lower control arm shafts and bushings installed and I tried greasing them and I cant seem to get them to take any grease. None of the 8. All were installed per spec and all have new grease fittings. Has anyone else had this problem or know what might be going on. I was using a hand pump grease gun. Do I need more pressure or what?

I dont think those joint take much grease. Did you get any in the joints?

My opinion is that if they were installed per spec why do you want to shoot grease into them. They should have been greased before you installed them and not need any more for quite sometime. I have a 69 and mine did not need any more grease after install. Just makes a big mess if it starts oozing out the cup. but if you feel the need to grease them more maybe more preasure on the nozzle, maybe it is not getting past the ball valve

Are you trying to grease them with the tires on the ground? Truck must be supported by the frame on stands or on a lift-grease won't go in there w/weight on the tires.

Thanks fleet, I didn't think about the raising of the wheels. Just a senior moment. Also, they were greased when installed but I was just double checking all installation parameters by double checking all fittings, etc. were working correctly.

I've had similar issues with greasing the control arm bushings, on new and old bushings. The problem isn't usually the grease fitting, so I figured it had to do with a lack of a space for the grease to flow, but have not reconciled this fact with the older well worn bushings. I don't have an answer, but can say it isn't just you with this issue.

Thanks, JKU. I have greased a lot of fittings in my day but never anything brand new like these. I was perplexed. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that has faced this problem. I wonder if it has anything to do with the new seals that are used with these new bushings. they fit tight and don't really allow any room for the grease to go. I'm going to try pulliing up the rubber seal when I add the grease to see if it allows the grease to flow throught the bushing.
