ignition switch real loose.
howdy, been a while... still working on my old 70 cst.
Recently the ignition switch has come loose. when i put the key in and turn to start the truck it turns clockwise without engaging and I have to sort of hold it with my thumb so I can turn the key to actually engage the switch. do I need a whole new assembly or is it something I can take apart and tighten or whatever to fix it? |

Re: ignition switch real loose.
Put the Key in the ACC position and there is a little hole by the key hole, stick a paper clip in the hole, and pull the key assembly out, then there are 3 notches on the chrome piece around the key hole, put a screwdriver in one of the notches and tap it with a hammer to make it go counter clock wise, once that comes of there is a metal piece thats screws onto the ignition switch itself, Tighten that, there is 3 slots on the end of that, and 3 little tabs right behind where u pulled the switch out on the metal, line the tabs up and spin the chrome piece back on, once that is tight, push the key assembly back in, then you should be good,.

i can feel something depress when I put the paperclip in but the key assembly doesn't budge. I tried turning it more and just pulling on it. I've got it in acc (turned counterclockwise)

Yea theres a little pin in the hole that you push in with the paper clip that unlocks the assembly, when you try to pull it out, just push the pin and twist the key to the left more and pull back...its prolly a little stuck in there form never being pulled out.

Re: ignition switch real loose.
Once you turn the key you need to pull the paper clip out while continuing to turn it toward the left. Then pull the lock cylinder out with the key, kinda in one motion. WES
