1 pc rear main seals?

Can you guys tell me if 350 cid engines (1972 year) can be modified to use the 1 pc rear main seal? If so . . . .
Is it expensive? (Roughly how much $ ?)
What parts if any need changed modified?
Is it worh it?

Thanks!

Darren

I don't think it can be modified to be one piece. I don't think it would be doable, since the engine blocks are cast completely different. I could be wrong though. Anyone else?

sorry but no can do-you CAN convert the new stlye blocks to the old 2-piece stayle cranks but not vice-versa. You have seal leaking problems? I install my rear main seals (2 piece) offset from the cap parting line about 1/2 an inch so help cutdown on leakage & i put a TINY dab od black silicone on the seal mating surfaces-it works...

Yah. I have a good used motor that will be going in my truck. The previous owner said it had a rear main seal leak.

Thanks for the advise on the offset gaskets with the black silicone sealer on the mating surfaces.
Thats what I'll probably end up doing.

Thanks again!

& i almost forgot-a bit of black silcone inside the rear cap helps too & felpro has 3 seals for the older sb chevy-the factory one, one that moves the lip inboard (incase the crank is worn at that spot) & one that has both sealing lips. One of these may help you as well... good luck
