i'm trying to remove the previous owner's license plates from the truck i recently bought...however, on the front tag i came across these bolts which i'm not familiar with...can anyone tell me what i need to remove them? the head has a hex shape, but there's some type of metal pin/prong protruding from the center...thanks for any help/info!

They probably aren't too tight. I'd be in the toolbox looking for a flat screwdriver to slip between the pin and one of the flats on the hex part.
Or one of those driver bit sets with a large selection of bits. |

I have a handy set of all the different security bits from Wiha. Although a lot of auto parts stores should have the exact fastener kit that includes a wrench for it. Ask for "license plate locking fasteners," or something along those lines. You already got it out, but for future reference sake. I support spot welding tags.
