Brake and Running lights no joy
I had some strange turn signal/brake issues but my brake lights worked. I just replaced the turn signal assembly and plugged in the two connectors. Now both turn signals work beautiful, front and back.
I have no brake lights now. I've tried following the wires and can't find anything. The headlights turn on, but no running lights. Since my turn signals work the grounds should be good, right? Where else to look? Thanks. Last edited by SS317; 06-15-2011 at 04:01 PM. |

There is a connector at the fire wall, to the right or inside of the truck, should have like 4 or so wires, ( to the right of the accelerator pedal)that all goes back along the frame rails to the rear of the truck, check power there for the brake lights, if nothing there, check at the brake light switch under the column on the right side of column.

Re: Brake and Running lights no joy
No power at either the switch or the bulkhead connector. I traced the two wires going to the switch. One goes to the headlight switch, the other goes to the two connectors that go to the new turn signal wiring.
I don't have power at either side. I even went and bought a new brake light switch and hooked up the wires to it, still no joy. I'm looking up power in posted wiring diagrams. I'm seeing that power should be going to the turn signal switch via a dark blue wire. I need to find that dark blue wire and see if it's getting power, I think. Anyone else? If there is no power going out to the light you are on the correct track, go back to the source before the firewall, the switch on the dash should be sending the current to the running lights, does it have power for the running lights.

No power for running lights, no power to brakes. I just came back in and am trying to figure out where the power is coming from. There is 12 vdc on the black wire on the connectors for the turn signal.

Re: Brake and Running lights no joy
The way I see this, the power for the brakes comes from the headlight switch, right? If so, could I have a bad headlight switch and it's making both the brakes and the running lights not work?
The headlights do come on when I pull it all the way up. |

Ok, no power coming out of the orange wire on the headlight switch. Does this verify that it is bad?
