Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?

I had the OG when I got the truck. Absolute first thing to hit the trash. I got a Mooneyes 12". And my belly isn't in the way.
Perfect.
Plus, for all you "stock" interior guys, I like the 67-68 wheels, don't get me wrong, but since I want to mix the original with Hot Rod, just can't beat a Mooneyes.........and having PS helps too.

I prefer the 67-68 wheel, but I do wish someone made one about 1.5 inches smaller in diameter. Before I added p/s, though the big wheel was mandatory, IMO.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?

back in 60's and 70's the big wheels were easy to drive with your elbows so you could roll a smoke while goin down the road without the danger of stoping to do it

I just wish they'd repop the Sandalwood color stock wheel. Every Sandalwood colored wheel I've seen is like the one in the picture above, including mine. The plastic disintegrates. I'd love to go back in with a nice stock sandalwood steering wheel.

Yep I agree with you my sandalwood wheel disintegrated too. Would like too have the stock wheel back on my truck. I dont know why no one makes this color.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?

My old wheel had a couple of big gaps in it. One day I got the web of skin between my thumb & index finger stuck in said gap while making a turn, that was the end of my stock wheel. Got this one from Chevy Duty a few years back. I've been happy with it, so are my hands!

i like my OG wheel, cracks and all so far.,.it has character & feels comfortable with my power steering.,.,but if i begin to hate it or lose some skin making a turn, i'd probably do like yuccales did and get a nice repro unit.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?

I like trucks, therefore I like truck steering wheels. I actually remove other wheels to put back the original wheels. When I do use something different it's because I'm customizing the truck, not because of the size of the wheel. Then,I use GM car or 88-93 truck sport wheels. I feel aftermarket steering wheels cheapen the look.

I was thinking Foose made a stock wheel smaller on a truck build he did on Overhauling.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?

I replaced the wheels in my truck to aftermarket ones. But if I was gonna run a stock wheel it would be the early ones..

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?

i like the looks but i hate how big they are, someone needs to repop them a little smaller,as most people have power steering and don`t need the bigger wheel... i`d sure buy one.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?

i personally like the wheel that came with my 72 burb c20. it's from an early 80's chevy truck. same unit my dad put in his 72 burb 25 years ago. the factory wheels are the best looking (i'm partial to the later wheel as i like the 71-72 trucks the best). it would be nice if the aftermarket would supply us with replicas that are shrunk down a couple inches. i don't have a tilt wheel and don't plan to get one (3 on the tree, not auto) so the big factory wheel doesn't make sense, especially since i have power steering.

Re: Does anyone actually keep or like the stock steering wheel?

I like the stock large wheel beacuse I can see all of my gauges, regardless of the tilt position the column is in.

Decided to go with this one. Keeping the stock one in case I don't like it.
