It's Lives Again
After a year of demolition/construction, my old 60 lives again. Got the plates and insurance this morning and been cruising all afternoon. Can't believe the number of people pointing and giving me thumbs up. Even had a minor challenge at a red light and this old truck suprised the s**t out of a rice burner, leaving him to suck fumes of my flowmasters. It's been a year this month since i started this project and is it ever sweet when it all comes together. It was built to be my daily driver and it's first day at work was today. I was relieved when the 700r4 shifted into overdrive though. I had went around the block a few times and have a home wired OD switch on my dash, but it never shifted into OD for me on the trial runs, but i never really got above about 35 or so. Today when i hit the open road, the converter locked right up on command, just wasn't going fast enough for it to engage apparently. All in all, everything is great with it. Brakes could be better, but they're drums, probably upgrade in the future, but for this summer, i'm gonna cruize and no major teardowns. The steering is tight, and this thing rides like a caddilac. I don't know why everybody wants to dump the tortion bar setup, makes for a nice ride. Anyway, what a sweet ride. I gave up a 55 belair to get this truck and wondered if that was a good decision. I'm not wondering anymore, this truck is great.

Re: It's Lives Again
Outstanding. Nice when a truck makes it all the way through a rebuild and back on the road. Too often priorities change or life gets in the way and it just doesn't happen. Have fun!

Re: It's Lives Again
Nice going on the rebuild. I recently bought my kid a plastic ball at the supermarket that exactly matched your trucks paint. You know, the kind that are in those big wire baskets ...too cool!

Re: It's Lives Again
I also sold my 55 Belair 2 dr. ht. then bought my 65 shortstepper. I had sellers remorse about the double nickel but like you.......my truck stretches necks where ever she goes more than the old chevy and it's a blast to drive. I always get stuck taking the folding chairs and coolers to the shows! Aaaahhhh life is good.
