Post Potential Purchase of 57

I am a member of the 67-72 message board, owm a 70 CST10 Fleetside, but have a chance to buy a 1957 3100 with a 235 6cyl stepside for $2000. What should I look out for besides rust? Are the stepside boxes the same for 55-57? It needs rear fenders and a dash guage cluster, where do I find these? It runs and drive pretty well, is $2000 to much? This board is dead compared to the 67-72. Thanks for your advice. Scott

Welcome aboard!

As for the price of 2K, I would say it sounds a little high considering there are parts like the dash cluster missing? And the rear fenders (what missing or rusted out)? The fenders on stepsides are all the same from late (second series 55) all the way up to 1965. There are some fenders that have the spare tire cut out, those are not as popular for the "custom-look" stepside, but for a restorer that spare mount does not seem to matter much. As for the dash cluster, several places sell them new and used can be found. (I have several used clusters for sale) If new is what you want, use a search engine or try the most popular places i.e Golden State Pickups, Chevy Duty and on and on. I would try to get it for around $1200.00 if it is not needing many panel repairs. If floors are rusted out go for under 1K. Good Luck, rico_bob
