Measurement request from 454 setup
Who has a 454 stock shroud on their truck? I need measurements. I need a measurement from the radiator to the edge of the shroud. Measure from inside of fan shroud. What is the measurement from the shroud fan edge to the water pump pulley face. What is the measurement from the water pump pulley face to the front of the mechanical fan blades?
Radiator-----fan shroud edge----water pump pulley face. Total measurement from radiator to water pump pulley face. Anyone have or can take pictures of a 454 fan shroud with a mechanical fan? Is anyone running a serpentine belt, 454 radiator, shroud and plastic mechanical fan on a SB? Last edited by gchemist; 06-29-2011 at 06:35 AM. |

Re: Measurement request from 454 setup
I can grab some pics this weekend. I'm not totally convinced my shroud is a Chevy/GMC item. The shroud was removed from a 79 C-10 with a 350 but the mounting points (shroud) didn't line up with any of the factory holes in the core support, same with my truck. The fan and fan clutch both worked just fine on my 454. After drilling new holes the shroud has been in place for 2 years without any issues.
Remind me on the pics, I'll be out of town this weekend until Sunday afternoon (3rd).

Re: Measurement request from 454 setup
78maliburat, thanks! I guess about 5.25". Can you measure the diameter? I want to make sure the 454 shrould will work with my SB requirements. I don't want to order a new one from LMC unless I'm sure I can make it work.
All I need now are the fan to pulley face and total distance from the radiator to pulley face. |

Re: Measurement request from 454 setup
diameter shoulnt be an issue fans will interchange .. if youre going to big block you can cut down the small block shroud

Re: Measurement request from 454 setup
I need measurements to find a suitable working fan combo. I'll either use an electric or mechanical fan. Will a SB shroud fit on a 454 radiator with some modifications?

Re: Measurement request from 454 setup
Okay I measured the distance on my truck.
Total distance from radiator to pulley face is 7 3/8". A stock GM platic fan I have available is 2 7/8". For optimal use, the fan blades need to be at 2". A 454 shroud is ~5" from radiator to edge. Doing the math, right I think, I the fan blades should be about ~1/2" into the shroud. It should work out nearly perfect. I still need to know the diameter of the fan shroud hole. The fan I have may be too small. |

Re: Measurement request from 454 setup
The clutch fan for a 454 is 19.5" if that helps you at all.

Re: Measurement request from 454 setup
Yes it does! The fan I have is 19". If the blades end up at 1/2" inside the shroud, the diameter is a really tight fit. I'm going to look locally for a BB shroud. I think LMC has them available too.
On a serpentine belt system, does the pulley come with the threaded adaptor or can I add it on? |

Re: Measurement request from 454 setup
I think you will be ok with the 19" fan. Some BB fans are listed at 19.25. Did you get a reverse rotation fan since you have a serp setup.

Re: Measurement request from 454 setup
Yes, the fan is a reverse rotation. It's actually off my S15 Jimmy. Now I need an option to mount it. My setup has the pulley bolted to the water pump. It does not have a screw thread option. I guess I need to look for a pulley. Do new water pumps for 90's truck come with a mounted pulley?

Re: Measurement request from 454 setup
baclay9, thanks for the info. I'll go looking for a water pump pulley with the threaded nose.
