400 small block built or big block what will make me take of the fastest and the cheapest ?

BB has alot of low end torque.
SB is much less expensive to build.
Is that the answer your looking for?

small block is definately cheaper
big block is definately faster (more fun)

One of the magazines, I think it was Hot Rod, did a comparison a few years ago where they built a SB and a BB as nearly identical as they could. The BB just makes more power. But you're going to pay for that power, both building it and driving it. If you want a daily driver, I'd go with the SB 400.

If all you want is to beat Mustangs, go small block. It'll be faster and cheaper to build. You don't even need a 400, a well built 327, 350 will do what you want. A BB will leave them in the dust, but they will pass you again when you have to stop for gas.
