First Timers Build/Super Stock 70 Step

tryin to find time to work on the truck is getting tough. im putting in 60 hours week at my normal job and 30 hours a week at my part time. So enough of the crying here are so pics of what i have done in the past few days and what i am preparing to do in the coming weeks.
took out all the bondo on the left cab corner to see how bad it really was. Looks pretty trashed to me. I've primed the inside back cab. I am sanding the rocker/floor trying to locate the best spot to cut.

- i had a night off from the part time job. i got the other side of the step side cut off. The lowers are cracked and it looks like they jack-legged some braces to keep the tears to a minium. i guess thats a good thing. i will post some pics.
_*anohter note, i put a seperator on the compressor and did a little sand blasting with black diamond. MAN does that stuff stick to your head!!!

thanks i need some more time off. i plan on cutting the bed a loose this weekend, i finally picked up a punch set. 5 bucks from oreillys cant beat that, its not really a punch set. Its a four piece kit with the rivet cutter, spot weld cutter and i dont remember what the other two do.

oh the local paint store got bought out this week by single source, that is who i was getting my Nexa paint supplies from so now i have some hardener ordered so i can stop rattle canning the primer on... WHOOT WHOOT!!!! also going to instal the 3 stage filter system on the compressor this weeknd.
im sure i can get all that done before the cable man makes it to his 5 hour window appointment.

Went to the Chewin Fat BBQ meet and great. Good to see old friends and see old trucks. I picked up those new tools from work the other day and put them to work. Got the bed completely off. here are a few pics. The bed slats are trash i will have to replace them.

I have full access to do those cab corners now!!! I will take some measurement so that i can find a gas tank that will fit in the rear.

Glad to see ya today at the BBQ. Shannon's left cab corner looked like it wouldn't fit good. The more we worked it the better it got. We didn't have to modify it. It turned out looking really nice.

thanks Alan, great seeing ya..... I talked to him for a while about that today at the table. He was telling me how the cab flexed on the right side. I was concerned with that since i will be replacin so much on the left side of mine. i think i am goin to brace mine before i cut it out. if i mess up i can always cut it out right lol.
i am ready to get this beast a running and get stated on the other one. I think i want it 2 inches off the ground with a shop logo.

I've braced my truck and Ronnie's, for whatever reason we didn't brace Shannon's. I will never do that again. Brace lenght, width and height.

what size sqare tubing would work? 1/4 or 1/2?

I bought some goodies today, here are a few pics. Traffic was hetic getting to and from Summit. But i did get the frame area primes and one coat of flat black. I hope to get a nother coat before i install the tank. I didnt get any pluming yet i will wait and order that from work.
16 gal tank, should be plenty


Just some general supplies i didnt go all out on the etch primer or degreaser. They work fine.


one of the step i sanded and primed, they are a pain to sand. I almost bought some repops but after thinking about it i just GOT ER DONE.

I had the weekend off two weeks ago, I had this weekend off but i ended up working in TN. SO here is a few pic's of what i was able to get done.

shifter still needs a few tweaks

16 gallon fuel cell with foam and sending unit, not a fan of the AN fittings but it fit in there nicely.

its sitting a tab crooked but no one will notice it i guess once the bed is on. there is no movement once mounted. its also has a slight forward pitch

Its hot outside in case you were wondering. I put the fuel cell in and put the clamps on today and took the truck for a cruise to the part store.

I've been working on the bed sides at night after my part time job.

if you look at the fuel cell there is a blue cap on the vent. didnt realize i needed to do something with that. haha. once i drove two blocks to the gas station i noticed the tank had swollen. hmmm. had a fitting and a foot of hose and it solved the problem. i have not hooked up a gauge yet, but i dont forsee a problem with that. its a 0-90 ohm sending gm unit. so to answer your question, its working great.....

Spent the weekend at the junk yard. Saturday i went to survey what was there and make a decision on what i wanted. I went there looking for some seats, old parts and maybe a radiator.
So Satuday i looked around and pull some chrome Dealership Nameplates. I thought some were pretty cool. Going to post them up on the for sale forum see if i can find someone that would want them.
Went back Sunday my bud Dan, we pulled some leather seats. they were from a buick Park Ave or an 88. They have a few cuts, but the will work for a year or two. Positive thing they are 6 way power. I also got the control unit that was mounted on the door. Less than 100 bucks i got two leather seats and center console. Can beat that!!!!
here is a pic, i put one of them in the 58 to sea how if was in height. Not bad just need to pull the bench back out on the 70 and take some measurements and make some templates to make a frame for it.
