Cool help with tach questions?

ok my friend and i are having a little feud he says there are different tachs for 6 cyl and for 8 cyl and he says theres one for diesel and also he says there are different rpm like a 50 a 60 and a 80 are these things true?

There is a 6 cyl tach, 8 cyl tach, and at least 2 versions of the diesel tach. The 6 and 8 cyl go to 5k rpms, and the diesels go to 4k. The diesels are also mechanical drive.
