pulley alignment?
I see light at the end of the tunnel!! Finally, I have the 350 / 700r4 package installed, and picking up my driveline today. I'm down to installing the accessories, fuel line, radiator, TCC adjustment, shift linkage, etc. A previous owner decided to pull the A/C compressor and installed a different pulley setup. It worked ok before I removed the engine, but I discovered that the harmonic damper was not fully seated..perhaps to help in alignment. Anyway, please see attached pics - the power steering pulley alignment is off. Is there an offset pulley available? I know the eng is a circa 1978.
Any ideas - I do want to re-install a/c at some point, but now at this time. I just want to get her running.

Re: pulley alignment?
I think you may be right about mixing long & short water pump pulleys. The power steering pump looks like the correct one, but it looks like a long water pump in the top photo.
I have the same alternator mount on my truck and a long water pump. The power steering pump & brackets I have are from a later setup also, I would guess like a 75 Chevy ps pump on mine. That may be what you need, although I don't like mine and will be changing it. Hose routing is really bad on my setup and tears up hoses pretty fast. I am going to a serp belt setup off a later model vehicle so that I can quite worrying about this, I have hunted & gathered numerous brackets & pulleys trying to move the alt back to the left side of the engine, so that I can hook up the factory air. By the way, the PO on my truck had shimmed the alt out with washers trying to get everything to align correctly.

Re: pulley alignment?
Thanks for the quick replies...I love this board - best "tech support" out there
The water pump, balancer pulley, and the inside groove on the alt pulley line up.

Re: pulley alignment?
with aftermarket AC usually -- most likely inside pulley is power steering, 2nd pulley is alternator on drivers side, third toward radiator is AC on passenger side.

Re: pulley alignment?
I cant really tell by the pics but is the ps pulley set in just a little? Mine was once I switched to a long pump & used misc pulleys. All I did was remove the rear bracket bolt(the one on the motor mount) & put a washer or 2 behind the 2 bolts in the block. It worked just fine.

Re: pulley alignment?
I was wondering about this I have the exact same problem. I put the setup back on the motor that I got with it but for some reason my power steering pump pulley sits about 1/2 inch forward of were I need it to line up with the water pump pulley.
