1950 GMC stock transmission question??
This is for a buddy......he has a 1950 GMC long bed 3/4 ton. It looks to be original. It is a three speed on the column. He does not like column shift and wants to transfer the shifter to the floor. I advised against it but...its his truck.
What is the stock transmission? Anyone know? What floor shift conversion is made for it? Any help would be appreciated!

Re: 1950 GMC stock transmission question??
So far all are great solutiions that we have also tossed around. The reason for the post was to get some conformation and names of what would work. SO...
What is the name of the stock transmission? Will a universal 3 speed floor shifter mount to the side of that stock transmission? Although it "universal" Im sure it has limitations. What exact 4 speed (name, year range?) are we ask for when lookin that will mount up to the original drive shaft? We are hunting specific, technicalm, answers.

Re: 1950 GMC stock transmission question??
4 speeds muncie sm420 47-67 1/2 ton to 1ton these have the lowest first gear of all stock transmissions. sm 465 67-mid 80s watch for the ones with the counter gear damper when they go it creates a bit more clearance and makes noise if driven by someone that uses the punch and coast method of driving. It doesn't hurt anything though I had one like that for 10 years in a 68 1 ton 4X4. Wish I had that truck now I'd put my dodge Cummins in it.

I have a 1950 Chevy 1/2 ton with a factory 3 speed floor shift. If you go junk yard hunting you may beable to find a factory set up.
