front bag size??

Ok, quick run down:
Ive got a '50 1/2 ton goin on a '91 s10 frame basic SBC 350/700R4.
(This will be a daily driver that sees quite a bit of miles.)
My questions is about the right bags for the front.
I definatley want to run Slam Specialties, but the question is what size??

RE6 or RE7???

Ive read alot over on the s10 forum and they all claim the RE7 ride better/smoother do to lower PSI at ride height. that i understand. you also have to do more trimming out the spring pocket to fit the 7s.
and while i do want a GOOD smooth ride i don't want it TOO soft. (I WILL be running shocks and sway bar up front too)

so i guess my main question is to anyone with experiance in this area, is a RE7going to ride smooth but NOT like an old caddy? or should i go with the RE6 and let it be a bit more stiff.

Thanks,
Chris

Re: front bag size??

What you need to know is what will the bag pressure be at ride height. To low of a bag pressure will result in to soft a ride and cause bottoming. To high of a bag pressure will result in a harsh ride.

now,....is there any way to "figure" that out....i can't imagine so with all the variables with different ways to set up and what your chosen ride height is.
I'm ready to pull the trigger and order my front bag setup, but would hate to drop the $$$$ and not like it.

thanks for the reply tho.

Re: front bag size??

I had RE7's in the front and RE6's in the rear. Great bags, rode awesome. A bag is a bag, they all ride about the same as there is no rebound control in a bag of air. Like N2TRUX said, it depends on your air pressure. What bag you use has little to do with your ride height.

That's just it.... What bag he chooses dictates what pressure he'll need to achieve a specific ride height.

If he chooses a bag that's too big, he uses less air pressure to achieve the same ride height a smaller bag would get to @ greater pressure. Whether it's noteable or not will be subjective (some may notice, others may not).

The s10 chassis w/a sbc installed would be like a g-body (Malibu/Monte SS). Ridetech specs the smaller bags for these & s10's.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Thanks for the reply SCOTI. I went ahead and ordered the RE7s. I may call ricky at QAR just to get his feedback on this before they finish processing my order.

Thanks again!

Re: front bag size??

The S10 frame is a common swap, but your still building a hybrid so its hard to know for sure. The guys at QAR have sold plenty so they should have some insight. You can also contact Jon with Scots Hotrod and get his input as he worked many years for Ridetech.
