install a/c on 76 scottsdale
so something hit me when i was enjoying a round of hits from the bong with buddys stairing at my truck when we relized... my summer truck only has heat in it and that isnt desireable when in traffic.plus the fact i need to redo my rad and cooling system as the hose keeps falling off the block no matter what i do(thinking the connector or somethings messed up ) so i figured would it be worth it to put a/c in too, i can post pics of anything needed for people to give me info..

A/c is nice here in the south. Have you tried to tighten the lower radiator hose? May need to put the bong down first though...

Re: install a/c on 76 scottsdale
There should be a bead at the top of the cast fitting that keeps the hose from slipping past. The upper fitting can be replaced by itself along with the thermostat. The lower hose fitting is a cast part of the water pump you'll need to replace the whole water pump.
Adding AC isn't a cheap weekend project. R12 & R134 is pretty tightly controlled in Canada. Adding AC to a non AC truck means cutting and welding a panel into the firewall from a donor cab. You'll need the compressor, brackets, condenser, hoses, evaporator, heater box, AC/Heater wiring, and controls from a donor too... It's not a cheap proposition to add AC. BTW Lake Okanangan is a gorgeous area of BC. |

Re: install a/c on 76 scottsdale
Like hatzie mentioned, there should be a lip on the water pump. If you've had a slow leak it may have caked up with gunk. Scrape, file, clean however you like to expose this lip.
Does it look like the oil/coolant are mixing? If the hose keeps "popping off" this could indicate a deeper problem where your cooling system is over-pressurizing and the hose connection is the weak link.

As far as AC goes, unless you need the truck to look factory correct, I would suggest going with a Vintage Air system.

Re: install a/c on 76 scottsdale
my newer model 82 cost me several hundred to replace parts of the Air conditioner being the prior owner tried ripping out the system in faor of a hotrod look in the engine bay.. i found that its cheaper to buy air conditioning hoses from a autoparts store than LMC and i was able to find all the brackets in the boneyard otherwise it would have been exceptionally pricey to do this
