The spring becomes too short given the amount that is req'd to be cut per inch of drop. You wind up w/only a few coils vs what the original spring started with.

The method of retaining the spring can possibly interfere w/the available limited space the suspension has to travel on compression.

The ride is overly stiff making the suspension unpredictable on bumps & dips on the road. Unpredictable = erratic.
