This is what I am thinking, it will move the hole 2" to the left.
I haven't decided for sure yet.

Re: steering column hole move?

How does it line up with the center of the gauges and how many U joints are you using?

These trucks are have so many curved panels it's hard to really be sure.
But I filled the "tunnel in the dash and recessed and moved the mount for the column drop to the center of the gauges. So it looks to be a half inch to the left of center at the bottom.
The column in the stock position {offset to the right just bugged me}
I will use two u joints I have a 75 camaro clip and it looks better now than it did in the stock position.If you look at the last pic {the dark one} you can see the steering box through the hole.

Re: steering column hole move?

Here's what I know.
I put a couple bucket seats in my 57, and immediately noticed that I was driving to the right of the road. I slit closer to the door, and it was easier to stay in the middle of the lane. So I moved the seat 2 inches to the left, and it worked out better for me. I went back and looked at the bench seat I removed, and observed that the "butt bowl" I had left in the seat driving my '57 for the last 30 years was very close to the left edge of the seat. If you move the column to the left, you will get a better "perspective" of the road and may lend itself to a more comfortable driving position. Just make sure you have enough room for the seat to be "left" of the column.

I too sit closer to the door. All I moved the top of the column is about an inch and the bottom about 1 3/4" mostly for pedal clearance. I made up a set of swinging pedals and a brace so It should work out.

P.S. there is about 5" clearance with the big old steering wheel so anything smaller is OK.
thanks mark.
