1949 Wood planks for 3100 Shortbed
All, I want to replace my 9 hard wood pine truck bed planks. I see so many companies out there and prices that I'd like to ask the opinion of fellow truck enthusiasts who they recommend for hard wood pine bed planks.

Re: 1949 Wood planks for 3100 Shortbed
"southern yellow" pine is hardwood and what was originally installed in the trucks. All other pines are softwood - so, it's true, you can't just stroll into home depot and grab some cheap pine boards - they won't last long at all. Most base-level kits are oak, a great stable hardwood - and then the prices ramp up from there as you get more exotic. One company I have heard all positive comments on is Mar-K, and the focus of their busines sis bed parts and bed wood. Might be worth a look.
Good luck! |

Re: 1949 Wood planks for 3100 Shortbed
Guys, thanks for all the help. I ordered the complete set in hard pine from MAR-K and I'll keep all posted on the progress and product. I'll paint the wood with POR -15 then a high eend paint from my local HW store. I'm also reconditioning the original side boards that came with the truck. The guy supposedly ordered them when he bought the truck. They are in great condition.
