Best way to store tires?

I have the tires for my panel inflated and stored laying flat with card board between each tire. Is this the correct way to store tires that are not being used?

I have some other tires and rims I may be storing too, so I should probably be doing this correctly ... thanks for any help.

Re: Best way to store tires?

I would think contact a tire shop or manufacturer.

That said, I would guess it depends on how long and
in what conditions. Personally, I would dismount them,
seal them in opaque plastic bags and lay them flat indoors.

I do know rubber breathes and dries out. Light gets 'em too.
I really don't know if there's a way of keeping the normal
degradation from happening.

Excellent question and post. Most folks don't know
tires have a shelf life.

Re: Best way to store tires?

lol That link is a good read.

As it relates to the op's question -

"it is important they be stored or stacked white-to-white and black-to-black to prevent staining the white rubber. The black rubber used on the tires' white letter/white stripe side is compounded differently then the black rubber used on the opposite side. A layer of non-staining black rubber covers the white rubber on the tire's white side to prevent oils in the tire from migrating into the exposed white rubber and discoloring it, however the black sidewall uses standard rubber. Stacking all tires white sidewall up will allow the oils from each tire's black sidewall to migrate into the white rubber of the tire below it."

Re: Best way to store tires?

As far a stacking them was concerned, I always believed they should be stood upright in some sorta racking rather than on top of each other as the bottom tyre would suffer...but then google imges showed three different ways to stack em, I suppose it all depends on how long they're gonna be stored.
