Re: flywheel

Yes as long as the small block is not a 400, or a 1986 or newer.

Re: flywheel

If it is a 92 it probably a 454 and they are externally balanced so the small block flywheel won't work. Help a guy out here I'm not backward on this am I guys? 396 -402 427 internal balance 454 external , right?

Re: flywheel

The 92 block he mentioned is his 350, I believe. He stated his big block is a 402.

You are correct. all small blocks are internally balanced, except the 400. All big blocks are internally balnced other thant the 454.

All small blocks after 1986 used a one piece rear main, have a different flange and bolt pattern for the flywheel/flexplate.

Re: flywheel

So if it has different bolt pattern, not saying it doesent but if bolts up to the origanal 3 speed transmission it wont work then,or is it just the motor 402 that it wont bolt to.

Re: flywheel

Its not the bolting to the trans thats the difference. As stated, flywheels dont bolt to the trans.

It is an issue with connecting to the crankshaft and providing proper balance of the engine. The wrong balance flywheel will quickly destroy an engine.

All small block and big block chevys have the same bolt pattern in regards to the bellhousing, or the trans to engine connection.

Re: flywheel

Clutch may bolt up. There are 2 bolt patterns for clutches depending on the size. Thats not a big concern, again the big concern is balance of the engines rotating assembly.

As stated, if the small block is a 1986 or newer, there is no way it will work on a 402 big block chevy. If the flywheel was off a 1985 or older small block, other than a 400, it will be fine.
