1986 chevy sub engine questions
Hey guys. Just purchased an 86 suburban, 1500, 4x4, 700R4. The engine is a replacement goodwrench 350 motor. It has the four bolts on the outer edge of the valve covers but a passenger side dipstick. I think its the older style 350 but with the oil pan that can have either side dipstick. The motor is starting to smoke and is under powered. The Sub was used for towing so the motor is worn out. I am going to replace the 350 with another "old" style 350. Here are the questions:
1. I want to get ride of all the pollution control things (I live in Maine so no legal reasons to keep) and was wondering what troubles I might run into when getting ride of all this stuff. 2. I want to dump as many vacuum lines as possible. This is not my first engine swap but the other was on a 69 camaro and did not have all the vacuum lines. I know I need vacuum to brakes, hei distributor, and.....what else? (it does have ac and cruise control but I dont care about those) a. Does the tranny need vacuum? 3. The Suburban also has trailer brakes on it. Can I just take that pump off and remove the lines and electrical system or will there be further problems with this? Any help / suggestions would be great. Thanks guys. |
