Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
I got my Scott's bolt in cross member installed finally. All 32 bolts are in and tight and the engine is sitting on the new side mounts. If my calculations are right my wheels will be a half inch forward from their original location. I only moved them that far as I though they looked about right before. I am planning on starting an install thread but want to get farther along first.
My pic from Photobucket didn't make it. I'll try again. Last edited by Russell Ashley; 06-25-2014 at 05:32 PM. |

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
My Scott's bolt in cross member. This has taken me a lot longer than I expected. I'll have to trim two - three inches off of the original front cross member to get the steering rack in. Justin said it would be fine to just remove the whole thing but I don't think I will remove it completely. I had to change to the side engine mounts as the original style mounts bolt to the part of the cross member that will get cut away.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Russell Ashley I'm glad you checked in. I think yours will be one project that when finished you can give a strong testimony to those who are curious about the change when going from a straight axle to independent suspension.
Keep up the good work, Jim

Softpatch, bought the radiator from tomsclassic on eBay. I made the shroud/fan mounting and bought the 16 electric fan from the local auto parts store.

Got the studs out of the exhaust manifolds, cleaned the manifolds up and painted them. Will get studs as soon as I can make it to the parts store.
Measured my drive shaft, now its off to get it shortened !

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Temps are sitting around 100 for the next two weeks, so I am scheduling me time in the early morning to do body work. I know from last year that Rage flashes in about 20 seconds when the temp is above 90!

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Ahhh, Softpatch beat me to it. I was going to ask the same thing about where the radiator came from? I like the top tank being a duplicate of the factory one.
Does it cool well? Are you happy with the quality of it?

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
Radiator is well made and looks good, no ugly welds or seams. I am using a 160 degree thermostat and the temp so far never goes above about 165! Being aluminum you do need to be careful of the fins when installing.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?
I sold my axle with CPP disk brakes and power steering setup, including the springs, and everything that was part of my front suspension. I had $1k in the upgrades, got $340 for the whole thing and was happy to get it out of my way.

1.5 mile stretch of cars both sides of the street, In years past that works out to 500 + cars. Good times |

Introduced 1 month old grandson to the shop. Body work on the bed inner fenders and blocked the bed sides with 180. Found some minor stuff I did not finish when I primed.

Picked up 4 15x8 and 2 15x7 corvette rally wheels with brand new bfgoodrich tires. Also came with some original "power disc brakes" center caps and a couple extra trim rings.
