Re: What looks Better painted or blacked out fire wall poll

It will be much easier to paint the firewall and the truck the same color if you have the cab off the frame. If you are going to paint it on the truck then it will be easier to paint the firewall black. We painted my firewall and the interior the same color, then painted the cab a different color. What a PITA..

Next truck we paint off the frame it will all be the same color....lots easier, less masking, less chance of screwing up. Looks more custom.....Kieth

I think painted gives it a more professional finish. I always think a black firewall looks like someone pulled the motor and rattle can painted it.

I agree with keith, depends if all the front end pieces are gonna be off the truck painted for sure, but blacked out if its gonna stay together, and depends on what the truck is going to be used for, driving it all the time might be easier to have it black.

Re: What looks Better painted or blacked out fire wall poll

i like the firewall to match the interior (factory interior colors) but since you're doing gunmetal - I'd go with black IF the entire engine compartment is done very well with black. Otherwise, I agree with the above folks, looks rattle canned (like mine!). If you go with the firewall midnight blue, I'd still make the inner fenders and rest of the engine compartment satin black - otherwise looks like you dipped the whole assembled truck in a paint can. But that's just me. Depends how custom you want it to look (or how stock). I like the look of stock firewalls - so that's why I lean toward them matching the interior (and that was just one way the factory did it - they also painted them black).

IMO, if the fenderwells and core support are black, a black fire wall is just too much black. Body color firewall just seems to brighten the engine bay a little.

^Agree^...i'm doing my truck in tan primer w/ a satin clearcoat, the firewall will be tan, but the supports & everything else will be semi-gloss black.

Re: What looks Better painted or blacked out fire wall poll

I think the body color firewall looks much richer. A lot depends on to what level you're building the truck, and if it's custom or restored. Mine is bedliner because it's easy and I'm lazy. Kind of how I see black, unless it's exceptionally well done.

If mine were a show truck I'd want the firewall and inner fenders to match the truck color. Having the engine compartment match the body is one of the things I always admired about Mopars. It makes the truck look like a lot of effort went into the build.
