New windshield and now my glove box is a swimming pool!
Just had a new windshield put in my Cheyenne20 last week and after a heavy rain storm the other day, the glove box was full of water!
I've had this truck for many years and never had any water in the glove before this. Prior to the windshield, I welded in a donor top section as it was rotted and resealed the gutter on top so it can't be from that area. Any ideas on where this is coming from? I suspect it must be getting behind the gasket somehow. ???? Floor was perfectly dry so it's only in the glove area. HELP!

Yeah, it's getting through the gasket. I had that happen to me with an LMC gasket. I pulled that puppy out within several months and put a precision gasket in, then ran around the edges with a micro thin bead of the best caulking/sealant I could find. Not even a drop comes through now.

I suspect it is leaking in around the gasket and ends up in the corner of the dash on the inside. There is a small drain hole in the dash there and if it runs through the drain hole it will run down the side of the glove box liner and right into the glove box via the seam where the liner is put together. Whenever I have a liner out or put a new one in I seal that seam with sealer, then if it does happen to leak it doesn't fill the glove box with water. LockDoc

The factory used sealer on the body flange as well as glass to rubber.

look for any ripples in the new gasket. I had this problem with an oversized gasket. I had two new gaskets side by side. One was three inches longer than the other. Went with the short that time, would have been perfect if it was an inch longer. Rubber is my #1 frustration with the old trucks. Somehow they were able to punch out these gaskets by the literal millions 50 years ago. But with all the worlds advancements you can not get two of the same today.

Re: New windshield and now my glove box is a swimming pool!
I had this problem when I had a new windshield put in back in '08. The shop reused the old gasket & it leaked with the new glass. They tried to say it was bad seam sealer in the seams around the opening. I told them them it didn't leak before so it must have been something they had done. They installed it again with new rubber & no trouble since.

Re: New windshield and now my glove box is a swimming pool!
Thanks guys. I was just looking at it and see they used a black sealer just under the gasket surface but not sure on the glass to rubber area. I guess it could be getting in that way.
The gasket is Precision brand. I bought that ahead of time and let the glass shop install it. Think I'll take the glove box out and run some water around to see if I can get it to leak. I'll seal up anything I find there. Going to start keeping my insurance card in a zip lock too! It was doing the back stroke.

Re: New windshield and now my glove box is a swimming pool!
My K20 leaks like that. The glove box fills with water if I park with the nose uphill. So I park with the nose down hill. Now my bed fills with water because it is Rhino lined, but my glove box stays dry. One thing I do now though is to put all my paper work in a zip lock baggie just in case the water does find its way in there.
