Re: Is it bad form to use rhinoliner/hurculiner?

I'm going to be using herculiner on mine because it's a longbed and not a show truck. I plan to fix the little bit of rust and few floor dents then scuff and put on the liner. I'll take pictures before putting it on to prove it's not covering any rust. Got it for $49 after Rebate at O'reilly's for a kit. Will need one more quart because it's a long bed if I want to go all the way up the sides (might just do the floor)

Re: Is it bad form to use rhinoliner/hurculiner?

I think it looks great. I bought a bed with the liner already done and considered it to be worth over 200 bucks in material and labor that I didnt have to do myself. I dont know about resale value, though, but Im gonna hang on to this truck anyway. I think I'll line the cab floor with it, too.

Dang that's not a bad deal, is it still going on at o'reilly's? If you don't mind me asking, how exactly are you going about the prep process and taking out the dents/rust? I'm pretty novice when it comes to this so any info would be appreciated. Wouldn't mind seeing the pics you take.

ROFLMAO!! OUCH! Yes I googled it...

BTW, I forgot to mention earlier. The Al's gun ( hootus made me remember) uses ALOT of air. So if you dont have a big compressor, round some up from friends, and hook the hoses together.

Re: Is it bad form to use rhinoliner/hurculiner?

I personally havent found a home use spray on that turns out as nice as the professional products, I have helped 12 college buddies to date do their trucks to save a buck and no matter how good the product was you could always tell that it was a diy kit... now as far as the professional products go I have used both lineX and Rhinoliner on the farm and would have to say that I much prefer the looks and useability of lineX. After a number of years of abuse lineX still looks pretty much new after you spray it down with a pressure washer and spray tire gloss on it, while rhinoliner put through the same test looks like it was used and for some reason I noticed on a few trucks was that rhinoliner will sometimes chip.Just my .02 take it for what its worth

Re: Is it bad form to use rhinoliner/hurculiner?

I love the Als liner, I have sprayed over 20 gallons of it and it is holding up great.

Harbor frieght sells the exact same gun as als liner and you can usually get it for cheap, I was in there a month ago and picked one up for $8 bucks, gonna use as a spare.http://www.harborfreight.com/texture...gun-66103.html

As far as resale, you can look at the job done and the underside and get a good feel of what kind of shape the truck is in. I have sprayed my 67', Blazer and Jimmy the GMC. I sprayed both sides of the firewall, the interiors and beds. I tinted all of them to color match and have had alot of compliments on them. It is nice having bedliner in the convertibles, especially if it is raining, dont have to worry about wet carpet starting rust.

Re: Is it bad form to use rhinoliner/hurculiner?

I have a spray in liner in my newer truck and a couple months ago i spilled brake fluid in the bed and it took the liner off clean to the paint and left the paint like new. Idk if it would be a good thing to try or not, id be worried about my paint but it could be away to remove a liner like that.

If you go with it and it gets scratched (broke through to the metal) Either repair it or cut the non-adhered part off. The PO of my truck had scratch bedliner in a few places. Underneath was solid rust.

My point exactly on my posts above. This stuff can be used to hide many imperfections including rust. There was a nice Scout for sale here that was totally covered in liner material inside and out. Problem is, you could see bubbling in the liner in some areas where the rust was not taken care off completely. I don't think it ever sold.

We have all seen what rust can do under the drip rails seam when unseen and undetected. By the time you notice it, it has done it's damage on the cab top and elsewhere in the cab.

All I can say, if it has liner all over, beware...

Mine was a new floor (from LMC sadly).

Re: Is it bad form to use rhinoliner/hurculiner?

This thread ended up having a wealth of info, thank you everyone! I think I am going to go with either al's liner or hurculiner. I just picked up the truck today from the guy and I'm making a list of things I want to do to it, so this has gotta go to the back burner until I get that stuff done! I'll let you know how it turns out though.

Re: Is it bad form to use rhinoliner/hurculiner?

Ive had both, plastic liner and Rhino. Both have good and bad qualities. The thing about the plastic one is its sure easy to slide stuff in and out. The thing about Rhino is its sure nice stuff doesn't slide all around.

So guess it depends on your likes. My plastic one was an under the rail. I gave my box a really good brush coating of Hammerite before I installed the plastic liner. Took it out years later with no rust problems underneath.

My son used to spray Rhino for a Dodge dealership on their new trucks. I would stop by and visit him at work and damn that stuff gets everywhere, and like someone said, forget ever using those clothes and shoes again. You should have seen his little shop radio, it had a thick coating of liner and still worked =)

Re: Is it bad form to use rhinoliner/hurculiner?

Or, you could go with line-x, it's not as thick as rhino and it can be color matched. It usually runs about 450 for a short bed plus 200 to color match. They actually spray the color on after the line-x. Here's some photos I got from their website: No, i'm not a salesman I just think it looks really cool

Cheers,

Re: Is it bad form to use rhinoliner/hurculiner?

The line-x stuff isn't cheap but it looks really good and they say those that don't have the time to do it themselves save up for it and have it done or sell it and get a cheaper hobby. I'm having a guy rebuild my trans for 250, another guy is going to take the bed clean up the dents and primer it for 500 because i usually work 50 hours a week and like most of us usually have to finish the honeydew list before we can work on the truck. But the 50 hours a week help pay for what needs done, so it's a give and take situation. Sorry, what were we talking about, oh yea, the line-x is my plan after the dents are removed, once I save up for it.

And I believe, like most body shops can order and match any color.

I don't think it's such a bad thing if you're going to keep using it as a truck. I plan on having the metal strips sprayed for my wood bed and the floor of the cab.
