Thinking of doing a 1989-1991 swap.

you know, replacing the stacked headlights with the four smaller beams and larger parking lights... GMC of course.

That or go all-out like I did to my Blazer and make it a 1980.

The main thought behind this is the fact that my original rad support is pretty badly rotted out at the bottom.

Well I guess if it will take care of the rust issue on your current rad support I say go for it. I personally dont like the front end...it just looks too dated but anything is better than rust lol.

What about swapping back 7 years to 1980?

Yeah ive seen few grills for em that I like the look of. As far as the 1980 swap, thats what I would do over the 88-91 front. Gotta love the round eye front ends.

I'd say go for the round style too.

I myself actually went from the 89-91 front to the 81-88 quad light style. I did this because there are decent aftermarket 4x6 lights where I was able to run the higher wattage, and thus brighter bulbs. The 89-91 style have almost no aftermarket lights at all.

The 1980 front would look like this.. [next to my GMC for an idea of difference] though I'd have to settle for 1979 and older until I've acquired all the friggen 1980 parts...

Oh, I DEFINATELY am getting some extremely bright HID's for whatever front clip I choose I've gotten quite fed-up with the asshats that end up on rt. 30 going into Philly every morning.

If they're paying attention, after they realize my truck is about to eat their Altima, they move. But there are a few that are too far into a phone conversation to realize a 25 year old truck with its highbeams is RIGht behind them because they ripped over in front of it with no signal, then slowed down.

Are you doing it mainly to resolve the rust issue? If so, it seems much more cost effective to just replace the core support you have as oppossed to replacing the whole front end for the other set ups...just my 2 cents.

I'm probably one of the very few on here that like the 89-91 front ends, so I would vote that if you change it out.

The 80 front end you have shown with the square headlights I believe was only for the silverado, so it's kinda unique.

Do a '73-'74 front end...that's the coolest front end out today. The 91 front ends were cool in the 90s.
I frequently drive my truck to work, and I hear you about the lights...mine are really dim yellow (low beams), and dim yellow (high beams).

Well I figured since I'm tearing apart the whole front end basically to change the rad support, it's a good opportunity to make it what I want.

Now, if I went with the 1980 front clip, I'd do what my plans for the Blazer were, and that is mate a 1973 GMC grille to that front end. Headlights, bright as I can get 'em.

The 1990 front is a lot easier to get, wire, bolt on, and takes less parts. However O DO like the 1980 front a little bit more.

my 91 suburban is a scotsdale and had the ugly round headlights so I swapped the core support etc out for the duals from a 91 which I think is the best front end the only thing to worry about is the head light wiring to firewall I would think it changed at some point but mine was the same just a 8mm bolt i think two piece plug clipped together if memory servers correct
