remove that old bed!! 42yo carriage bolt
If you are contemplating whether or not to remove that old steel bed here is one of the 8 carriage bolts that i removed. I think if I would have accelerated to fast the whole bed would have broke free and been left behind! Glad i decided to remove the Bed!

Yea I guess it was time for them to be replaced for sure!
I did mine several years ago when I first had the truck painted. 1990 I think are maybe 91,92. It's been way to long ago now.

Re: remove that old bed!! 42yo carriage bolt
wow!
I picked up my truck, headed down the road with it on the trailer, and i look back and the bed it 2ft out on the pass side, i was like oh ****. The only bolt holding my bed on had snapped off it wasn't that bad, but close, and there was NONE in the other holes. I was lucky it didn't slide off.

Re: remove that old bed!! 42yo carriage bolt
Mine has (had) a wooden bed. Because all the wood had rotted and was missing you shake the bed up and down a lot. It made for a very noisey ride. I burned off the bolts and added two 18" strips of 3/4" plywood followed by 8 new carriage bolts. Tightening the bed and adding a real exhaust made so much improvement it seemed like a different truck!
