What's the best way to remove the middle tailgate trim that runs across the mid tailgate horizontally?

Will the tailgate look like this after removal?

there's 4 or 5 screws you can get to from the inside of the tailgate.

If your truck is an 81-87 the tailgate should look like that if it hasn't been swapped for an earlier tailgate. except it will have 4 or 5 holes along the middle of the deepest part leftover from the tailgate band.
