Custom Factrory look cluster

I have been working on a custom cluster for my truck. I had a good gauge cluster without tach. I want the No Limit billet cluster with Auto Meter carbon fiber gauges, but for 800.00 I am going to have to save up a while.
Plus I want to spend my money getting the paint and body done.

I wanted to add a tach, and switch to electric oil psi and voltmeter.

So using Gringoloco's idea, I took apart two sunpro gauges and used them with my factory faces. I went with a sunpro tach mounted from behind to keep with a factory style look.

Here is the finished product. Followed by a step by step guide on how I did it.

For the tach install, I found the center of the opening in the bezel (actually, the gauges all sit a bit low to be view from a downward angle. I tried to match it close to the speedo and fuel gauge. I used a hole saw to cut a hole just smaller than the sunpro tach face. Next, I found the center of the back plate and cut out a opening the same shape as the circuit board leaving two tabs in the center which were bent down to allow the right mounting depth.

For the voltmeter and oil psi, I used the sunpro cup and internals with the factory face. The face will need to be trimmed to allow the needle to sweep properly. Use the sunpro face as a template to mark for trimming.

I used the sunpro mount bracket and plastic insulators to mount my gauge cups to the factory back plates. Note, the factory face plate pulls the gauge up out of the cup a little requiring a spacer between the back of the gauge guts and the cup (approx 1/4") I just used some rubber vacuum line.

Here are some pics of one backing plate and how the gauges look once installed. Btw, that is the factory temp gauge.

Finally, I trimmed the printed circuit, being careful not to cut/break the lines inside, to clear the tach bulb, wiring, and switch. I also used some black rubber like liner to insulate the circuit board from shorting to the backing plate. (see post #2)
