lowering shackles and block the same?

So I am trying to get another 1" of drop out of the rear of my truck and I added some 2" drop shackles but it didnt seem to lower it any? Will adding a 1" lowering block to the flip be any different?

A lowering block will definitely lower it.

if your axel is mounted below the spring a 1" block will raise your truck about 1" not lower it

I have always found shackles to give 20-30% less drop than advertised. Blocks are known to give you 100%

Yes, a block will give you exactly the change in height as the block is tall, with the flip, 1" block=1" drop.

As far as the shackles, each company's shackles seem to be different, I have seen up to 3/4" difference in length on two different brands of 2" shackles. A good rule of thumb is that for each added 2" of length of the shackle, you will get 1" of drop, so a 2" drop shackle should be 4" longer than the stock shackle, although, as I mentioned that 2" drop shackle may be 3.75" longer instead.

Something to keep in mind though, was your installation process. Did you tighten the shackles with the truck jacked up with the suspension drooped out? Or with the weight on the axle with the suspension at normal ride height?

Too many times I have heard and seen people complain of a rough ride and not getting the full drop out of shackles because they tightened the shackle down with the suspension drooped out, this will effectively cause the bushings to "preload" the suspension at that drooped out height, and will cause a rougher ride and not allow the suspension to settled down.

If you did this, go out there and loosen the bolts with the truck on the ground, I bet you will hear a "pop" as the truck settles down. If you can't get under the truck on the ground or on a lift, jack the truck up, put it on stands and then use a floor jack under the axle and lift it up until the truck just starts to come off the stands, so that it will have the same effect as being on the ground.
