Frame cut delima

OK so I get the bed off and see the frame was cut, how fing frustrating with everything else that has been butchered. Its not a c-notch and not all the way through. I am a welder in the Navy and know the welds are good and the frame is boxed in so its solid, BUT it seems it was done to lower the truck. The truck rides beautiful.. Should I leave it and is this common practice? I plan on bagging the truck also.

Re: Frame cut delima

Welder in the Navy huh? and living in ocean springs. You must be an SW stationed in Gulfport. Well I am not there anymore but was for 2 years. EO3 Kersey i was in NMCB 74. i didnt make 3rd until i left gulfport though. You should hook up with some of the other board members down there Bill or Palf70step as he is known on the board is a standup guy, except the fact that he was an air force guy lol. That aside I would not say that that is normal at all but if you plan on bagging the truck you could maybe cut that out and put a good c-notch in its place. thats just my 2 cents

Re: Frame cut delima

haha wow, thats a new one for me...
why cut springs when you can just cut the whole frame lol.
If you feel confident in the welds, I don't see any reason why you can't run it. I guess it gives you a little more bag clearance if you ran bag over axle in the stock spring spot.
I personally wouldn't take something like that on a strip truck, and if your a welder and going to bag it, your better off just re-doing it while your in there. Might as well just put a c-notch in if your going to bag it anyway.

Any more pics of this setup? I want to know whats going through some peoples heads when they do things lol.

Re: Frame cut delima

I would get a pat on the design and then post it in the suspension section. They're all trying to figure out how to get 1/2'' lower.

Re: Frame cut delima

if you're going to notch it anyways for bags then its not really a big deal... kinda a cool setup for what it is though. I wonder if someone was really that desperate to maintain the factory coils and yet only drop it 1 inch? LOL

Re: Frame cut delima

I was not planing on a C-notch just bagging it. Think about just running with it for now. Have alot of work to do still. I really dont want to cut the bed either, love the original bed look.

Re: Frame cut delima

One more question. If I was to c notch how would I do that? I thought a notch would just go where the axel would hit the frame. Any suggestions????? Or is there a c-notch kit out there that would be big enough for where the fram is curently notched and where it would need to be notched??

Re: Frame cut delima

Interstesting....seems like a lot of unneccesary work to drop it what looks to be 1 1/2" ....

Depending on what notch you want to use...

I would purchase a notch, then when installing it..see if it'll work with the current spring mount lift, or eliminate the whats there and just plate/fill it back to the way if was.

Then run blocks if you need more drop.

There are small bolt in place notches that do just that; my frame is notched about 4" and doesn't actually extend above the stock frame level, if that makes sense.

What you would want to fix that is a step notch or super-c; mini truckers call them different things but its the same idea. Essentially its a boxed notch that straddles the frame...then you weld then ends to maintain structure, and cut out the frame in the middle. I have a HUGE amount of pics from doing air suspension on some previous projects (not c10) if you want to see how it works.

Re: Frame cut delima

is it possible to see a picture of this frame work in relation to the rest of the frame and axle? looking at it again, it looks like maybe this entire notch is in front of the axle?
