Iv got a slight problem. HELP!

Whenever i give it gas in 3rd or 4th gear, the engine bogs. I have to constantly pump the gas pedal in order to keep it driving smooth. Iv checked the timing, rebuilt the carb and adjusted the choke a little bit. Has this happened to any of you guys? The next step is plugs and wires

i'd check the advance in the dizzy, weights move freely and the vac moves easly not sticky and drain out the fuel line from the pump to the carb(watch for crud)

Check your timing chain

Re: Iv got a slight problem. HELP!

Its a 305 with a quadrajet. If it was my timing chain, wouldnt the timing be all over the place? It seemed to be sticking around 4 degrees

Re: Iv got a slight problem. HELP!

quadra jet is opening those big throttle bores on a 305 will cause a bog, but a lean condition will cause it to choke out

Re: Iv got a slight problem. HELP!

Did this just start all at once or did it just progress?
Fuel supply can be big so check that first. Don't forget the filter behind the inlet filter on the carb. If it is dirty, it will cause just what you describe.
The coil or coil wire or the button in a HEI will also cause this problem, many other things.

Re: Iv got a slight problem. HELP!

i would be checking the secondary choke butterflies to make sure they aren't hanging up on the top plate(air horn) of the carb. by the back to screws first. Take the air cleaner off and give them a tap. if they stick even the slightest bit they won't open when you put your foot down. The second thing i'd be checking is the fuel filter and fuel pressure. if the fuel filter is okay and you have low pressure then odds are the fuel pump is shot.
