Re: Anyone running Pypes street pro mufflers?

Will the xpipe work with headers and the stock transmission crossmember?

the x pipe will wor with the transmission crossmember but you will have to do an s bend on 80's truck to clear the drivers side that hung low

exhaust gas velecoity and pipe layout does effect drone but muffler design is the major part of it

the only reason a 3inch x pipe may not drone so much is the exhaust velocity is lower and egual among the tubes,

I'm looking at running a pair of Magnaflows, 3" I/O, 18" case length and 6" case diameter. I've never run an x-pipe before and don't know if it's worth it.

Re: Anyone running Pypes street pro mufflers?

I just received a set of Hedman Longtubes for my '80 K20 longbed. Any idea if an X pipe setup would work? Summit 'claims' the Pypes complete system will work...

I currently have the stock manifolds and turndowns just aft of the unknown mufflers. Last visit to Emissions they refused to test it as they had in the past, citing liability concerns of putting the hoses up and over the rear axle.

when you run 3 inch piping on a motor with less than 550 hp you will lose torque down low, but with the extra scavanging an balance an x pipe gives this brings it back up to par somewhat, it also mellows the tone out as well,

ultimitly you decide if you want to pay a little extra the way I see it go all in and never regrett

well from the pypes site only has 2.5 inch from what i saw (nothing wrong with that) but they say CROSSMEMBER BACK SYSTEM

so you still need an s bend over the 80s trans crossmember and extensions to go to the header
my system is the universal x pipe from pypes $149 and spintech mufflers $182 and some u bend piping $30x 2 so thats a total of $391 so the price they are selling for isnt to bad i suppose

Re: Anyone running Pypes street pro mufflers?

My combo will be around 425 hp on the motor and 550 on the bottle but I was advised to run 3" pipe by someone I trust well. I'd thought 2.5" would be plenty but I'm taking his advice.

Re: Anyone running Pypes street pro mufflers?

yah 3 inch will be fine especialy if your going to run it on the track, for a daily driver that see's very little track duty 2.5 is suffecient i have about 420 hp on mine and as far as im concerned v8s make plaenty of torque and im not to concerned about 10 or 20lbs down low

hondas can worry about that lol

Doesn't someone make a custom cross-member that lets the exhaust run straight? Or maybe run the Chevelle or Camaro headers?

Re: Anyone running Pypes street pro mufflers?

If you are lucky enough to find a "double hump" crossmember, you don't have to worry about the S bend to clear the crossmember. Or, do like I did.. and go with an aftermarket one. Here is what I used:

http://*************/crossmembers/63-...on-crossmember

As well, I am running the Hedmann Elite long tubes.. and the exhaust runs straight back from there. It hangs just a bit under the frame, but unless you are really low with your suspension, it is not a problem!

By the way, for now I am just running the bone stock 305 in the truck and with straight dual 2.5 pipes and longtubes, I have not felt any low end power loss. Not enough for my rearend dyno to tell anyhow. I think that is over-hyped really! Eventually, I will put an X pipe in there just to tone down the exhaust note a bit.. but I have never noticed a difference with power gains with crossover pipes either. Now, if you are running 500+ hp, I am sure that is a different story!

Re: Anyone running Pypes street pro mufflers?

i know about the double humps but from what i heard also is the early squares didnt have cats on them so no need for a low 2 into one section

Re: Anyone running Pypes street pro mufflers?

Not sure what you guys mean by a double hump, but since I'm talking about a 4x4 with a SM465, I just went to the shop and took a look. An X would be tough, needing to go right under the tailshaft. So I'll pass, and just hope for the best.

I just hope these Hedmans clear the Z bar for the clutch!
