LT1 in a 55 2nd series w/77 camaro clip?
Ive got a 1955 2nd series chevy that I put a 77 camaro front clip under with the camaro rearend flipped under it as well. (THANKS TO ALL THE INFO ON HERE). I extended the front 1-1/2"
Now its time to start fitting the LT1 & 4L60E that i got out of a 93 Z28 camaro in it. I have allready ordered the LT1 wiring harness and the my computer to LT1wiringharnesses.com Has anyone got info on this? and will the stock 350 motor mounts from the 77 camaro work for the LT1 without any fab work or not? Thanks for any and all info i can get. FIRST BUILD AND IM LOVIN IT! before the camaro clip without hood and rear fenders. after front and rear camaro swap and the motor and trans that im planning on installing |

Re: LT1 in a 55 2nd series w/77 camaro clip?
I can't speak from the exact same experience, I am using a LT1 on an S10 frame in a 49.the issue I ran into was the lower bracket for the A/C compressor The nova should be wider than the s10 but you might have to run an A/C delete pulley and not run the stock a/c compressor. I just moved my engine back and trimmed the frame to clear the lower part of the pulley I definitely wont be running a stock a/c compressor. But as far as 350 motor mount I dont see that being a issue, the LT1 I am running(96 roadmaster) has the exact same mounting holes as the 1st gen. 350. LT1swap.com has a lot of good info also.

Wonka, could you please post pics of the area at the front of the steering box? from the top looking straight down? from the bottom looking up?
I have the same subframe under my truck and a really nasty problem with steering box and core support mounting. |

Re: LT1 in a 55 2nd series w/77 camaro clip?
well i got the motor and trans sitting in the truck. im using the stock 77 camaro motor mounts on the subframe and fabing the upper mounts that bolt to the motor. as fas as the crossmember i havnt got that far, i might just try and use the 77 camaro crossmember somehow.
i still have to clean up and finish the core support . im goin to cap and clean it up real nice. |

yep it looks like the nova front end gives you a lot more room for the LT1 than the s10 frame,I wouldn't even be able to think about running a stock a/c compressor.

Well just put the crossmember in place just got to bolt down. I ended up using the 77 camaro crossmember, which lifted up the Trans to where it is barely touching the cab floor. Didn't get to do motor mounts tonight but there's always tommorow. I also pulled the cab off this evening.

Not sure were I came up with Nova from your post I guess I read to many posts, it looks like to engine fit the camaro frame well much better than the s10, I miss all my those brain cells somedays,I didn't start out with that many then I destroyed a bunch.

Re: LT1 in a 55 2nd series w/77 camaro clip?
Power steering lines from a Roadmaster will work cause the Z28 ones probably will be to short. Found this out on my '52 s10/lt1 build and Rootbeers build helped me.

Re: LT1 in a 55 2nd series w/77 camaro clip?
all of the brake system was gone out of the camaro and the truck so i have got to figure out which way to go on the brakes. firewall or under and what to buy.
i like the look of a clean firewall. WHAT DO I NEED? |

I have a 57 with a 71 Trans Am clip and a 95 Z28 LT1 with a 4L60E and I had to muck about with motor mounts to get them just right.

Re: LT1 in a 55 2nd series w/77 camaro clip?
If you remove compressor you can use one of the compressor bosses on motor to put 350 clamshells on and it will bolt right in. You can relocate compressor. lot easier than making mounts to fit frame...

Re: LT1 in a 55 2nd series w/77 camaro clip?
1959chevy - not sure if im following you on the compressor bosses, can you explain a little more
just messing around i put some 1/4" plate steel and bolted them to the block. in this pic i raised the motor about 1/2" just to have a little more room to work. plan is to try and make some drops of the plate to go on either side of the clam shells. What you think, will it work? |

Re: LT1 in a 55 2nd series w/77 camaro clip?
may not be compressor boss but it would be the three toward the front. the clamshells will bolt right on there tho and you can just set it down on the frame mount. no need for relocating the mounts.. on the pass side. you are using 2 of the bosses with the plate there should be one more toward the front

Re: LT1 in a 55 2nd series w/77 camaro clip?
Well I got a little further today on my motor mounts. I used old barbed wire fence ties to make template bends and went from there. I think it will work, I still have one more piece to do. Then I'll tac in place pull out and weld them up.
Also one of my customers is goin to hook me up and blast my frame and powder coat it for 350 Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by WONKA1955; 12-11-2011 at 11:17 PM. |

Well after a little break over the holidays I've just built a rolling wooden frame for the cab to sit on while I do body work. Got to get moving again

Re: LT1 in a 55 2nd series w/77 camaro clip?
1959Chevy was talking about there are 2 mount locations on the LT1.
Put one from a B-body in a 70 C10, we took off the compressor and used the stock mounts from the engine we pulled out of the 70. Bolted right in, but you wouldn't be able to use the stock compressor location.

Great project! Im in the middle of swapping a 97 Camaro LT1/4L60E into a 54 Chevy Truck. We have a 81 C10 Chassis and still had motor mount issues ever after swapping to the SBC mounts.

Im about to venture with puting a 95 lt1 with 4l60e in my 56. I have a 77 nova clip, which is close to yours. Since I have the whole car Im thinking of trying to use the rack & pinion also. I see some fab work in my future! LOL......Looks good so far! Good Luck

Re: LT1 in a 55 2nd series w/77 camaro clip?
Cool Thread.. I'm doing the same swap in my 1955 with a 79 trans am Front and Rear.. I Ordered motor mounts from No Limit and their Trans crossmember.. From reading I've done Alan Grove makes LT1 Engine brackets for relocating the compressor. I have a question- What headers are you using? My engine has hooker headers on it which came out of 1995 camaro.. I don't think they will work tho. I'll post some pics of my project soon.
