Re: Basket case 88 gta
I had an 88 GTA when I was in the Navy. I loved that car but being young I never drove the car sanely. I went through 2 rear ends and 1 trans before I sold it. Fun car and wish I could get it back.

Re: Basket case 88 gta
I got the battey tray cut out and then found out nobody repops the drivers side. only the passenger side. I picked up a junk 91 camaro I am going to cut the tray out of for this car. I also picked up a 90 formula 350 L98 parts car that I am gonna use the disk brake rear end out of for this car to replace the one thats long gone. But thats about it. i kind of stalled when I realized I couldnt replace the tray lol.

Re: Basket case 88 gta
How do you think the T-5 will hold up to the TPI engine? I've got an 83 Z28 that's a carb'd 305/5spd car I'm converting to a hydraulic clutch. I've got a nicely built 350 I'm thinking about replacing the 305 with.

Re: Basket case 88 gta
its going to hold up just fine for me since this car came stock with a tpi 5.0 and 5 speed. i WOULD say it would probably be fine with a stock 350 tpi as well. Sticky tires or any rear horsepower then it wont last. In your case you better be on the look out for a tko to replace your t-5. A built 350 is gonna granade it. A good shifter with the stops adjusted correctly will help it live a little if you pounding on it but its not gonna last if driven hard.

Re: Basket case 88 gta
Thanks! That's what I was thinking too but wanted a second opinion. For now I'm going to keep the 305 in there and get it running good so I can use the car as a commuter.
