Hi everyone I need some measurements for a Full Convertible conversion on my '78 K5 and was hoping someone could help me out....
Im gonna be cutting my doors and need to know what the distance is from the exterior door handle up to where I need to cut... and I also was wondering if the top part is cut flush with the wing window frame..?? Here is a picture of what Im talking about... |

the lower cut on the door (above the handle) is cut straight with the window frame. You will have to cut the belt molding also. For the cut above the vent glass, it goes straight up, then makes about a 45 degree angle. If you buy the seals, it will be pretty self explanatory. Also, make sure you reinforce the rockers after cutting the top. It will want to flex between the doors and quarters.
Where did you find that pic? looks like a sweet Blazer.

I will be putting in a full cage so hopefully it will stiffen it up enough without the rocker boxes. Thanks for the info!!!

The belt molding is the seal that surrounds the window at the door

Yep. The original one makes a turn at the end of the dor. Just cut it to fit the cap. There is supposed to be a metal insert that goes in the hole at the end of the door, but whoever sliced my '77 didn't bother with that. They used a really long (4"?) sheetrock screw, and screwed the cap to the window channel. It worked, I guess.
