How to run 2 or 4 ohm?
I was wondering if someone could explain how to run 4 or 2 ohm on a subwoofer through a amplifier. Thanks

Re: How to run 2 or 4 ohm?
it depends in the sub/amp. is the sub dual voice coil or single. what ohm is each coil. and what ohm is the amp rated at?

Re: How to run 2 or 4 ohm?
You're not giving enough information.
Typical car audio is 4 ohm. You can wiring up in series or parallel in order to change the impedance the amp sees. Think of impedance as resistance. The less resistance, the more power that will flow from your amp. However, most budget amps will not safely or reliable crank 2 ohms without sacrificing some components. And once you let the smoke out of electrical components like resistors, it's hard to get it back in there If all you have right now is an amp, you need to determine what your amp can handle, then purchase speakers based on that. Most subwoofers will have the same model available in either 4,6,or 8 ohm. Some will have DVC and allow you more options. I suggest you do a little more research on your own before you start randomly hooking up amps and speakers. More than likely you'll be fine, but if you get silly and wire up a 1 ohm load to a min 4ohm amp, you'll start to have problems pretty quickly. |

Re: How to run 2 or 4 ohm?
most kicker comp 10's are 4ohm. depending on the amp depicts how you hook up the speakers. if you can get model number of your amp and subs you are thinking it will help alot. IMO a 250w amp probably wont be enough for a kicker comp. i believe they are 600w rms......it will sound like a 6x9...

Re: How to run 2 or 4 ohm?
in series ohms are additive.. 2ohms+2ohms.. so if your amp has a 4 ohm output... wire two speakers in series... one wire from the amp to spk a, one with from spk a to spk b, another wire from spk b back to the amp..
if you wire in parallel. two wires from the amp to spk a, two wires from spk a to spk b.. then it gets a little harder to eng.. but it is simple with just two speakers,, two 4 ohm speakers wired in that manner would look the same as a 2 ohm speaker,, |
