Stereo Bracket?
Did our trucks (mines a 77) come with a stereo bracket?
My old stereo is held in place by two nuts on the knobs but since I just got a new CD player that will require me to cut the dash I don't know how I am supposed to mount it. I want to put it in the stock radio spot but I don't have a bracket to hold it up. Do any companies make reproductions or something? For some reason I have a hard time believing that my radio is only supposed to be supported by the two nuts and I think at one time it probably should have had a bracket. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Re: Stereo Bracket?
Yes, they came with a bracket that bolted to the passenger side of the radio and then connected to the bottom lip of the metal dash. You should see a hole in the bottom of the dash where it bolts to. If you don't have access to a stock bracket, you can fabricate one from a thin piece of metal or use the plumber's bracket material and mold one to fit.

Re: Stereo Bracket?
Would you happen to have a picture of what they look like? I did a search of LMC, Classic Industries, Classic Parts and Ebay to see if I could find any but I couldn't. Looks like I might have to make one

Re: Stereo Bracket?
Did your new stereo come with the metal cage it slides into? It's usually already on the stereo. I mounted my new stereo in my 75 using the cage and its stays in place.

Re: Stereo Bracket?
Here is what I have from the box.
Faceplate Sleeve Trim Plate Handles Is the "sleeve" what you are talking about? It looks like a metal box that is around the front half of the unit.

You mount tha sleave to tha metal part of tha dash buy bending tha lil tabs over & that holds tha unit..much like tha 2 nuts on tha stock unit.

Re: Stereo Bracket?
metra makes a dash kit for these trucks. Its just a piece of sheetmetal and a piece of abs but it adds a fair amount of support to the radio and hides the holes from the old radio which aren't completely covered by the new single din.

Re: Stereo Bracket?
Just make a bracket out of any strip of metal you have laying around. Mine goes from the back of my cd player, to one of the pre-existing holes along the bottom edge of the metal dash.
I bought a correct bracket for mine and I ended up having to tweak, twist and bend it so much it doesnt look much like it used to. |

Re: Stereo Bracket?
I've mounted at least 5 cd players like this in trucks that were abused on rough roads and some that were even jumped. I've never had an issue or even considered supporting it from the rear, I'm not saying it would hurt, I just think it's not necessary. One thing to keep in mind though is usually to get the face flush you have to mount the sleeve on the outside of the plastic and bend the tabs to the metal inside which means you'll have to take it back off if you need to get the plastic dash cover off for some reason.

Re: Stereo Bracket?
If you got that stereo for Christmas, that's funny because I got the same exact one too
My truck didn't come with a bracket, but I usually use the cage thing thats already with the stereo and they work fine (as long as you don't cut the hole in the dash overly huge)

Re: Stereo Bracket?
Yup,
I've drilled threw the"cage" to install both of mine(old unit on chair) but i would support it from the back too,may slow down someone yanking it out if the maker didn't think it needed it it wouldn't have a hole for it
