The only things that i would get rid of is the service box and the only thing I would need is the short bed. All the suspension would be swapped from my burb and vice versa.

I'm not sure we are comparing apples to apples.
Sure you can swap in a newer EFI, but even in a heavy truck like a one ton crew cab your not going to see 15-18. The newer 3/4 crew cab with a 6.0 are pigs.
My 2wd 1/2 ton CCSB had TBI and it got about 15 tops with OD.
I was only referring to what was available from the factory in a square body.
I know the 1/2 ton 2wd short bed regular cab trucks with a 6.2 got 25mpg. No period correct gas engine will come anywhere close to that. I also realize a 5.3 swap will achieve the same with more power, but that wasn't the issue being debated.

But anyway, I'll get off my soapbox...

While a dropped cc half ton may look cool, it's useless as a truck. If some one wants a Chevy sedan, they should buy a Caprice.
I guess all the CCSB guys better start posting on the Caprice forums.

The price is nice but if you don't have the "have to have its" then wait for the next one.

Re: What do you all think? (1991 Chevrolet Crew Cab)

Stew, what do you think of a reg cab short bed? That must be like a Miata to you. I think a 1/2 ton crew with a normal sized (6.5') short bed is extremely useful. You can carry up to six people safely, tow quite a bit, have a 6.5' box to haul stuff and still park at the mall. Isn't that MORE useful than a Suburban? A CCSB is one of my dream projects. And remember, with airbags you can adjust the height, it doesn't have to be slammed all the time.

Sorry Da88, back on topic now. That sounds like a decent deal, especially if it has a 4L80. I think a CCSB 6.2 would be sweet. I would keep that diesel for sure. Keep us posted on your decision.

I'm very anti-short bed, and very much against the womanization of a one ton truck by removing everything that makes it heavy duty, and replacing those parts based on style and comfort. I've owned two shortbeds, and am currently driving a third, and it always seems the bed if full long before I have everything I need to load in it.

And the suburban I had sat eight people, and could haul drywall in the rain.

Stew_Magoo: I just say to each their own. You may feel that way but I like the look. An really look at it now I mean if it was a nice wide dually tith a bed and nice paint I could see where you are coming from but this is a base crew with a service bed on it.

trout: I think so to.

AntiGov: I'm lookin to go down not up.

Re: What do you all think? (1991 Chevrolet Crew Cab)

the way i see it the utility bed is worth bout 5-800 depends on who buys it and bout 100-250 at scrape then the 1 ton suspentions worth bout 600 800 with wheels and tires so theres bout 1000 there then throw a 350 in it after you scrap the 6.2 or just sell it and you not out much then you got a good start for what u want thats my thoughts

I hear ya, Stew. I just like to see them on the road and saved from the crusher, no matter what's been done to them.
