Cleaning Seatbelts? Ideas or recommendations?
Guys
This has probably been asked here before (many times?) but I was wondering what the best way is out there to clean/restore seatbelts back to their original appearance? I've got a '72 with the parchment (off white) color and I was wondering what to use on them to get them a little brighter without compromising their strength or integrity, etc. Many Thanks!!! Coley |

I have had very good luck by putting them in a bucket of very hot water and dawn dish washing soap. After about 15-20 minutes scrub then with a brush. You'll be amazed at how dirty the water is. May take two times if really bad

I have had great results with simple green and a nylon brush

Re: Cleaning Seatbelts? Ideas or recommendations?
Guys
Did you see any signs of the fabric wearing or degrading because of the cleaners used on it? I've never used simple green, but I've seen it around. The dishwash soap makes sense as well. It was harsher cleaners that I thought might mess up the strength of the seatbelt. (I should do some before and after pics?) Coley |

Re: Cleaning Seatbelts? Ideas or recommendations?
I also had some parchment belts that I cleaned. Its been a while but I remember soaking them in soap water like 1/2 a day then using a foam carpet/upholster cleaner and letting it soak on them, then using a nylon brush on them. Spraying them with a hose and letting them dry. You'll be surprised at how much dirt comes out of them.
Recently I got some belts out of a 67. I soaked them for about an hour and tried bleach white on them. Let it sit for about 5 min. and nylon brushed them. They are a fawn color and the bleach white didn't hurt them at all.

Re: Cleaning Seatbelts? Ideas or recommendations?
I don't know if this will hurt the integrity of the belt or not. But I simply threw my belts in the washing machine with some towels. They came out looking like new!!
