Re: What I did today...

Right up front I have to admit the camera and I haven't been real friendly lately(i.e. no pics to post) but I have worked on the '64 a little.

I was trying to work out a cheap(I'm broke) way to make the motor stands/adapter plates/truck manifolds work in my frame. Both manifolds hit the motor stands where they come off of the top frame rail. The "hump" in the stands will not let the manifolds sit down far enough to bolt on. The drivers side isn't off by much but the passenger side needs another inch or so in order to clear. I have looked at some other threads and am unsure of what my best approach would be.

I have read that the Camaro manifolds from 98-99 will work but most of the trucks that I have seen these on have used aftermarket motor mounts of some form.

The EC motor mount setup looks really nice but thats too much $$ right now to seriously consider. I also saw that a vendor has motor mounts on sale for 40% off but they are weld in and I would prefer not to go that route in case I want to swap over to another generation V8.

I also read somewhere, a long while back, about mustang headers with an LS flange welded on. Don't remember where though. I don't have the dinero to just throw around on "I think/hope/pray that it will work".

Anybody have any suggestions on exhaust that will work with the stock frame stands and motor mounts with adapter plates?

I did start cutting a motor stand apart to modify so it will work but what I have in mind won't look very pretty. That is my final alternative if nothing else comes up.

On the '65, I do have the 5 lug rear installed now but still need to rebuild the driveshaft and replumb the rear brakes. Soon I will pull off the front suspension and swap over to 5 lug disc and be driving this one again before too long(I hope!).

I have also been struggling with wanting to tackle the '55 that's in my avatar. The front frame in it is a stub from a mid 70's truck that is too wide and was welded in crooked. If I hit a wall on the 64, I may move it out of the way and roll the '55 in for some frame surgery. We'll see what happens...

Re: What I did today...

If the weld in mounts will work, and are the right price get them. If you change motors later you can always cut them out. It is just metal.

Re: What I did today...

May be swapping the 4l65e for a complete 6 spd setup from an 02 SS Camaro. We'll see how it turns out...

Re: What I did today...

Scott, the funny thing is, I have a running 454 that needs a permanent home now. You never know, it could find it's way into the '64. Hey...wait a minute! Why don't you put that fat motor in your '62???

Re: What I did today...

Hello again y'all! Didja miss me? Lol

Well, after a llooooonnnnngg dry spell I finally laid hands on her again. Nothing has been touched on her since I last posted about 1 1/2 years ago. Got to puttering around in my old shed and she started speaking to me again( can't tell you what was said, as this is a kid friendly sight... Lol).

Anyway, got back to cutting out old sheetmetal on the passengers' side. No pics but it felt good to be tinkering with it again. Hope to spend some time on it again early next week, because I'm working this weekend(right now as a matter of fact).
